6 days so far here too but another 15 predicted and no sign of cooling down. and people think montana is cold

I don't understand why the 4th of July is considered "Independence Day" or the birth of a nation. Basically all it was is just a day where a bunch of guys signed a letter to Britain saying they wanted to be their own country. They didn't actually become the United States of America and not a British colony until after the Revolutionary War was won.
Even if you go by Americans' view on it, the legal separation was on July 2, not July 4. Apparently a lot of historians also now think the declaration was signed on August 2, not July 4.
