I love when you are just talking past a person, and the only things they pick up on are the exact wrong things you want conveyed.

Especially when you give them a list of possible reasons for something and they choose to investigate the least likely one.

It's amazing to see how everyday, more and more listings for programming jobs pop up, not asking for degrees, but experience.

It makes you wonder why we've spent so much on our education, and why some of us are just buried in debt from student loans.

What a scam, it reminds me of the housing bubble -- Everybody HAD TO HAVE a House.

Its because experience counts for everything in programming. Most programmers start learning when they are 12 or even younger, and most have the core concepts mastered by the time they graduate high school if they are any good. I have yet to see a college curriculum that even comes close to teaching what you need to know to work in the industry for 80% of the jobs out there (that other 20% is mainly in research related fields, where a CSE degree is actually helpful).

Everyone I know has said "OMG ive learned so much in the last X months than I did in school!" when they get their first job (X usually being 6 months).
