Well saving old tech is always a good first step, i viciously attack every broken piece of hardware thats lying around the house take it apart and try to bring it back to life. If it refuses to come back to the world of the living...well no harm done, it was broken in the first place, if it does and i still have use for it, good and if it doesnt i can still sell it off for some money, even better!
And ive taken into consideration the pricy phones, thats why i recommended an old Galaxy S i9000. Its a couple of years old now which is almost ancient in the mobile phone world, and since the Galasxy S3 is about to be introduced this week the prices should be dropping even more, but its still a damn good phone and one of of the best selling one in recent years. If you can find one at a store at a discount it would be great, but buying one used shoudnt be a problem either (Marie uses the same phone). Its not too big or too heavy (122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9 mm, 119g) so it shoudnt pose that big of a problem to take it jogging with you (ive used a galaxy note for a few days as a loner and went jogging with that without a problem and thats MUCH bigger than the galaxy s ). It comes with 8Gb of space, but has an expandable memory slot, so stick a 32gb memory card in there and youll be able to log half a library worth of audio books around with you
