Sleet is a mix of rain and snow. Usually snow that partially melts before it hits the ground.

Thanks! I guess what I saw was sleet then, because it didn't melt when it hit the ground, but before... and it was icy on the ground, if I recall correctly.

If it was just rain that froze once it hit the ground, it was freezing rain, not sleet.
