Yeah, the gameplay was pretty cool and the missions too, except those about the fucking knife. I've definitely had most fun setting up ambushes for pirates and soldiers, and also out hunting. Bought it mostly for the coop splitscreen, so all-in-all it was worth it, but if you're a sucker for a captivating storyline then there's a myriad of games far superior.
The knife bit was so damn drawn out. Other than that it was a great game in terms of gameplay and setting, although the story was lacking at times, particularly towards the end.

I think it was that the story just wasn't captivating.
And another thing that really bugged me, was in the cutscenes where it was 50% talking and 50% pushing X O and triangle, there was this really clear mark between animation and gameplay. But I think all in all I'd give it like 4,5 or 5 out of 6, just because if they had gotten the story 'right' (+some small stuff), they could've very well have made game of the decade.
Multiplayer was decent, and on PS3 that's no small achievement. Map editor was tedious and clumsy, though.
Edit: Yeah, 3 hours and some change definitely says MP was fun

Well we would care if the stories were any good (sadly, even the RPGs are dropping the ball story wise) but with these poor excuses for a story...meh no one gives a fuck. Frankly the best story for me in a fps was the story in the No One Lives Forever games. it was a light hearted 60s spy fiction fearuring a cute and snarky heroine and above all it was utterly ridiculous to an absurd amount. in short, it was fun.

I couldn’t tell you the story of any shooter I’ve played. They’re just soooo disposable. I read books or watch tv for good stories.

Well apart from no one lives forever neither could I , but then again I don't okay many shooters since with the exception of transport tycoon I don't okay games without (somewhat decent) stories any more. I want more for my money than just mindless shooting or something like that.

Oh I mostly went for it because of the Action/Adventure aspect of the game, although playing the game revealed there was little adventure apart from some crafting.
And I only like shooters with great storyline. San Andreas was excellent in that department, so much that you could look past the faults in the gameplay. With this game, it's kinda the other way around. And I think the comparison holds up, even though they differ in graphical perspective, as I've seen FC3 touted as GTA in the East Indies. This lead me to believe it would have a stronger story.
With San Andreas I stayed up all night, and left work early to find out what happened next. With Far Cry 3 I had trouble forcing myself to go do missions instead of booby-trapping intersections.

Each to their own I guess. I just haven’t been enamoured with storylines in games at all, bar the occasional RPG bit of awesomeness. As long as the gameplay is there I don’t care why im doing what im doing.

Haha, I can see it from that perspective too, but I think games a really exciting platform to tell stories.
Games I've played that are shooters, or highly shooter-esque, which would be little without their storyline:
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
Portal (1&2)
Red Dead Redemption
Mass Effect series
HL series
KOTOR 1&2
I know many of those are adventure rpg's, but they all have pretty fluent fighting systems, so they deserve to be up there :P
Also heard Deus Ex was excellent, tried out the newest one on my pc (too slow lol) but seemed very shooter-y.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series also has a really great story from what I can gather, and is wholly shooter too.

Lol, playing it pretty fast and loose there
Especially with kotor!! There’s no shooting kotor, it’s all automated dice-rolls!!
