That's because you won't even let people poke you
You're doing it wrong! I bet I can poke both System-J AND Fledz... although in the latter case I'm afraid no poker can match his abrasiveness

What values were you using? The Drake Equation should give a lot more than that, even using today's estimates!
Also, what was on Hals link? It wont let me view it.
Not if you're actively trying to find the right variables so that the answer comes to 1 which i assume is what he did if i read his post correctly.
And what do you mean you cant view Hals link, its a simple link to a bbc page. This one. A nice graphical drake calculator

Yeah, but that's not how it works, obviously. You don't fudge the 'variables' to get the answer you want, you stick in the correct figures to get the most accurate answer. Well, for fun maybe, to see what size a galaxy needs to be to have the number of civilizations equal one..... but certainly not in an exam!
I used the term 'variables' as the factors taken into account in the Drake Equation are changing and getting more accurate over time (we hope).
If you could use the graph, you'd know what he was trying to say. It's kind of an interactive flow chart where you see the geometric occurrences of the most optimistic and even the most conservative and skeptic of estimates on the projection of life on other planets. The interesting fact to take away is that the least likely outcome is that we're truly the only intelligent species in the entire universe; to determine that we're alone, you really, really have to push every variable in the equation to its most -unrealistically, in my opinion- cynical value.

Yeah, I see what he's trying to say now. I wish I could see it, it sounds interesting
I guess what I'm trying to say is that Will probably failed his exam question. Sorry, Will
