I see. So unfortunately you confirmed what I suspected: You're doing work on a professional level without getting paid for it. I asked because with that radio simulation stuff you started to sound like some of my friends who are communication engineers.
I don't know if it's the lack of some degree / formal education that's holding you back and I won't dish out smart-ass advice here but you should turn this hobby into a job.
And business ventures doesn't sound like the right idea considering you say you live on barely any money. |
It is a job, but just not one that pays. Nothing is holding me back, in fact I turned down a senior position at the company that produces the platform for which I write this software for because I'd have to give up working on it (because it competes with one of their official partners).
We have a company, and we have a distribution contract for the software, its just not done yet, or in a state that I'd consider good enough for professional use (its been released as a consumer grade product though for Arma2 for almost 2 years now though, just youtube "Arma ACRE" and there are hundreds of videos explaining how to use it or showing it being used in game).
For the military version (for VBS2) we have a lot of stuff that is more complicated than the consumer version, including our own VOIP software since we use Teamspeak3 for the consumer version (which sucks, and I'd like to switch to our own software, but most gaming communities wouldn't take that up).
We were pursuing a round of capital investment during the winter but my business partner who knew most of the people involved in getting us some money to hire a couple more people sorta went AWOL and I haven't taken the time to continue to look into that (spent it developing instead).
It sucks balls not getting paid, but whatever, we don't have too much overhead. The most expensive part is paid for by our distributor, and thats our commercial/developer license for the military version of Arma (VBS2).
