Preliminary info on Behringer headphones...

Hi,

I just picked up my new pair of Behringer headphones today, specifically the HPX2000 "DJ" headhpones model.

Some initial impressions:

- Can't beat the price, they were $35 CND.

- Very, very comfortable headphones - foam padded headband, big comfy ear cushions

- Not a "closed" headhpone design

- Cups swivel 90 degrees

I will update this thread once I get a chance to listen to them extensively this weekend, so that I can update everyone here on the overall sound quality. My intitial impression - for $20US you can't go wrong with these phones.

P.S. I haven't used a high end set of DJ phones, but I think that these swivel the wrong way? If you hold one cup up to your ear, the headphones hang in front of you.

If it's not a closed design than it will be absolutely useless in any sort of a loud environment....

Might as well get a set of Senn HD497's...

Doesn't really matter now does it? It's way to cheap to be any good and anyone can see that they aren't exactly durable.

true

BUT

I went to a store yesterday to pick up something I ordered and this behringer model was lying there. When I put it on it blocked almost nothing from what was playing on the radio, the cups were to small for my ears (and no the problem isn't me, it's the headphones ) ans overall the headphones didn't fit very well. Theres your review

HAHAHA!!!

Nice and concise. I guess you get what you pay for.

Seriously, if these headphones are NOT closed, then what the hell is the point?? And how can they even advertise them as DJ phones??

Krazy Korprate taktiks.

...bearing in mind that I have not yet used any of the "Pro" DJ headhpones, here are some thoughts (not quite a review):

- I thought I was getting bass distortions on these phones, but it turned out to be the crappy amp in your average CD walkman. I've now hooked it up to my computer, and can turn it so loud that it's uncomfortable.

- The sound in my opinion blows away that of my cheap pair of Sonys. These phones have nice highs, mid-range is good, not quite as much bass as I might like, but not an enormous difference.

- Yes, without having any music on, you can hear right through them. But with music on, I generally don't hear anything outside the phones.

My opinion at this point is that you can't go wrong with them as an entry level choice. I will bring these and my Sonys to a local club for amateur DJ night very soon, and I'll see how they work on a big system.

I'm not yet ready to drop $200 on phones.

Forgive me if i'm wrong but i thought the Technics headphones aren't classed as a closed design? Same for the Senn HD25's they don't completely engulf your whole ear? So does this mean they are useless in a loud environment?

You are confusing circum-aural/supra-aural with closed/open design.

Closed design mean that they block out a lot of exterior sound, while open lets everything through.

Circum-aural means the cup covers the whole ear (or even encapsulates the ear), while supra-aural means it rests on your ear.

Supra-aural phones can be closed or open, circum-aural can be either also...

PS : you also have intra-aural phones, also called in-ear. Those can be of closed design also... Just look at those etymotic phones.
