All you people in America i have a question for you guys. Is the rave or club scene still affected by the cops and the government or is it better now.
About a year ago i heard that twilo got closed down for drugs reasons is this correct. In the uk we dont seem to have these problems.

Depends on where you live, but I can definitely tell you in NYC that the club scene is far stricter than it has been in recent months. I went up to Exit last month to see Ferry (4/11) and they had a complete run-down to check for any kind of substance. Also, they passed a new law so that you can't smoke in public places (including clubs, pubs, etc.). It does make a much nicer dancing atmosphere for us non-smokers, however

In Boston, where I spend most my time, Avalon never has had great security, and the new laws haven't changed Avalon that much. Massachussetts also passed a new law recently saying that you can't smoke in public places, which like in NYC, makes a nicer atmosphere for non-smokers, but not so much yet. Boston also has a STUPID STUPID 2am party ordinance so that everything must close by then... limits most DJs to a 2-3hour set at Avalon... especially when PvD comes and tears us up... then is forced to stop.

yep. Several clubs last year (i think gatecrasher as well) were raided by police for suspision of mass drug use. If i remember correctly, 20,000 pills were found, many arrested. In the States, there is bill called RAVE act which is on the brink of making it illegal to host events of a certain minimum population surrounding electronic music. it really sucks

God that must piss you right off worrying about clubs closing cos of drugs and shit all the time. Back in the UK since gatecrasher opened at the republic i think its only been raided once. Tell you what though not smoking in clubs is quite ridiculous. People must say when there in the club excuse me mr security guy can i just pop outside for a quick smoke mate.Ha god even though New York is probably i great city to visit and shit i am glad i dont live there.

wow that sux, that almost happened in toronto (2 years ago), but we had a nice friendly 'rave' (protest/w dj's spinning) infront of city hall...compromises were made and all is well...for the most part.

btw, why does the american gov't crack down on everything they don't like? i bet if a major american corporation could commercialize cannibus the american gov't would back them up!!! wack!!!

hopefully they don't squash all your raves...soon they'll have 'i just don't like the look of your face act' and throw you in jail because they think your shady er something.

Yeah I live near New Orleans, LA and there aren't that many big or popular clubs here anyway, well at least none that play trance we got a few that play some cheesey breaks, but nothin nearly as nice as places like Glow, Avalon, ect. Anyway the parties here are slimmin down and security is gettin a little tighter. our main venue (The Palace) got raided a couple years ago ang it aint been the same since. But I think one of the reasons that the U.K. is not have these problems is because yall have already been through it. I read a book on it, and something similar to the rave act happened there in the u.k., I think around late eighties, and some genres of electronic music actually evolved from this due to specific laws on repetitive beats. So just like were lagging behind yall in music our law enforcement's behind on trying to control these events. But hopefully like yall, eventualy they will relize that; it's not a big deal and that there are more efficient ways to control drug problems. and maybe thet'll become more lenient after it's all over.

Were I live it's kinda of a small town, but there was a club there bout 2 years ago that was pretty good, even people from sorounding larger towns and cities drove 1-2 hours to get there. it was all good until the cops busted it for X, that killed the whole scene the owners were arrested the club was shut down, and then open again but it was never the same again. Its funny because I got some cousins down south (in Mexico) were telling me not to long ago that cops over there we starting to shut down raves and clubs too, thats gay! stupid mexicans! oh wait! I'm mexican dammit. its sad to see that the Mexican goverment always does what the US goverment does.

I am with "wodak". I have been going to parties at The State Palace in New Orleans, Louisiana for years now and things have definatly taken a dive. People are nervous and security is rediculous. It definatly takes away from what used to be such a great atmosphere. I have cut down on parties mainly because of this. Even over in Texas it is getting bad. I drove 13 hours to go to Zen Fest just to be pulled over 3 times on the same street by the same cop. He was just tring to find just cause to do a search and seazure. To bad for the dumb fuck that I work for a power house law firm and I am in law school. I wish you all could have saw his face when I presented him with about 5 reason to press charges and put in a call to his supivisor. Just cause I enjoy trance dont mean I am going to tuck my tail in between my legs and let people tell me how I am going to live my life. I promise to all of you that I will crumble this anti-rave legislation when I graduate. However, until then I suggest you party like you want to and support our local djs.

- Well, here in Miami, Florida, one of biggest, if not the biggest electronic dance music event ( The Ultra Music Festival ) almost got shut down 2 weeks before the event was taking place ( 40,000+ people plus the TOP of the TOP DJ names were all in jeaopardy ). Thank god that it did not shut down since the promoters came to an agreement with the Mayor of Miami. Even though, police and security were the worst of the worst in the event, which really screwed the event a bit. The thing now is that, after 5 years of Ultra taking place in Miami, it may not be held next year, maybe not in Miami but some place else. So the so called "rave scene" seems to be getting affected by authorities ( ignorantly ). IN clubbing terms, well, im not a club goer "YET", but for what I heard, there's been some raids and crap like that, but nothing really massive. About that law of smoking in public places, it's been looked at, but I think it'll be nice hence the fact that nonsmokers ( including myself ) inhale much more then the smokers themselves hehehe
