What's the difference when the artist of a track is &, vs. or feat.? Like I understand & (e.g. Gabriel & Dresden) and feat. (e.g. Ghostland feat. Sinead O' Connor) but then what does vs. mean?

VS could just mean a bootleg that when 2 songs where used to make it seem like one to have elements of both songs hearable. VS can sometimes in many cases just mean when 2 artist work together to make a song like Mat Silver VS Tony Burt.

& and Versus (Vs./vs.) commonly have quite the same meaning that the artists have been working together with a tune as Psygnosis said, collaborating equally and giving their touch to the tune. But vs. might also mean that there's artists who maybe don't work together too often or have otherwise different views in music and now wanna try how their sounds fit together. This has maybe done with some compromises, other gives the bassline, other one gives some effects and synths or something like that (Tomcraft vs. Sunbeam - Versus >> uses Sunbeam's bassline and Tomcraft doing some other sound productions). Or then vs. might mean a bootleg mix of 2 tunes (Sasha vs. Garbage - When I Grow Up Over Xpander) as also said earlier.

Featuring (Feat./feat.) usually leads to the vocalist of the tune, or to an additional producer (System F feat. Armin van Buuren - Exhale) who has done some co-production on the tune but maybe not necessarily with the main parts.

I think feat. is used when somebody had nothing to do with writing/producing the tune, they just perform on it (ie. vocalist, sample)

vs. is usually used when they did (i.e. a bootleg or collaboration)

Yes. And "&" is usually used when are in a lasting collaboration (Gabriel & Dresden, Blank & Jones etc).

Bootlegs hardly ever get official releases but there are always exceptions.. One good example of these is
Chicane - Offshore (Disco Citizens Remix) vs. Power Circle - A Little Love, A Little Life bootleg mixed by Anthony Pappa.
It got released in '97 on Alex Gold's label Xtravaganza Recordings as Chicane feat. Power Circle - Offshore '97 (Anthony Pappa Bootleg Mix) and was featured also on Chicane's 1st album Far From The Maddening Crowds just labeled as Offshore '97.

Technically a bootleg is anything that involves nicking someone else's tune, or part of it, and putting it out. Usually it's two tracks together, but you sometimes see illegal pressings of otherwise rare tracks, which are also bootlegs. And if you put two tracks together with consent, then technically it's not a bootleg. Bootleg = illegal, more or less.
