Since im new here, i just wanted to know how many of you perform "commercially"? As for myself, i play maybe 4-5 times a month in bars, and randomly at different clubs.

I'm a resident warm up DJ for a club. Mostly house, tech-house, progressive, breaks and some slower trance.

Well.. I'll put my hand up here... The way I did it was by going to clubs with some mates and handing out demos in person.. People are more inclined to give you gigs if they have met you face to face and can see that you really want to play and are prepared to get involved with the night..
Don't bother just sending out demos as a lot of promoters will listen to them half-heartedly.. If the promoter has actually met you, they will be more inclined to listen to the demo seriously as they have seen that you're serious about getting involved... IMO...

I've had residencies in 3 clubs/bars now... the current one i got by schmoozing the owners, they already had their DJ's but one day i asked him if i could work as a doorman. after that he needed me as a substitute on some nights, and now that other DJ left so i got the gig for weekends.

I play a paying gig in a retail store in the heart of Vancouvers retail district. I spin a 5 hour set 2 times a week.
