Fruity Loops is probably the easiest program to use, I'd check out some of the tutorials for fruity loops online, and most importantly just mess around in the program and figure out what stuff does.

mess around in the program, make sure u got plenty of cpu, it eats it all up with just a few vst synths

definately open the tutorials up and have a fiddle, it takes time to learn all that shit, fruityloops aint a pick up and play program

If you are looking for sheer ease of use and not sound quality, try experimenting with Buzz (www.buzzmachines.com). It comes with with a ton of instruments and effects but they sound nowhere near professional quality. The sequencer is really easy to use too. It's not as feature intensive as some of the more expensive sequencers but it gives you an idea of what is involved in producing a track. I would also recommend using VSTi's with Buzz to give yourself a more professional sound. If you find you still like producing music, you can consider upgrading to more power applications (Reason, Cubase, Reaktor, etc.)

Propellerheads reason 2.5, midi interface, MIDI controller - best bet. Very awesome proggy, excellent effects, nice features and fraction of a cost of "real gear" once you're comfy with it, look into 'hardware' synths. howerver, with Cubase or ProTools and VSTi's you don't have to own hardware synth anymore. Some instruments are just phenomenal. many are even free!

Play around with your programs and you start to learn new things making you want to produce more and become better but these things do take time...
