So add a kick drum and meaty bass and you're almost set to go. Of course, the tricks have increased over the years like a stabby, echoed (delayed) sound effect at the beginning of 4/8 bars, or panned gate effects moving inside the speakers back and forth, but the core principles are indeed the same.
