I had never heard of Tolkein or his work until i saw it unfold on the big screen. It was well hyped by a lot of forums i visit. I love Fellowship. It was kind of long, and that's only because the world is so immerse and deep. How can they fit thousands of years of Middle Earth on camera? Peter Jackson has done such great work and i am absolutley in love with the way he directs. From camera angles, to the beautiful (and i mean BEAUTIFUL!!!!) music from Howard Shore. Fellowship is definently one of the best movies i have ever seen. the ending was so great, it almost made me cry (i'm a crybaby anyways). "but that is not for you to decide, all you have to do is what do to with the time that is given to you". it was so deep! fellowship is on the top of my list, right there with Shawshank and Gladiator.
Two Towers was an excellent film too. If there is one thing i notice about Peter Jackson, it's that he is absolutely talented in wrapping up the movie. Some movies end way to fast (SWAT) and some movies end way too slow (matrix3). Pure talent. I felt the angst of war, the dedication to friendship, the fear, the triumph, the... well everything. It always cheers me up to hear the final lines of Frodo and Sam, "samwise the brave"
I can only expect another hit with Return of the King. i haven't read the novels, so i'm in for a surprise to see the new twists and turns of the hobbits. I can only hope Gollum ultimately makes the right choice. that frodo and sam become saviors of middle earth. that evil will be gone and good will once again live on forever.

I almost wish I was in your position and could see the films without knowing what's going to happen. I must agree with you though, and I believe RotK has the potential to be the best of the three. I think FotR was slightly better than TTT; I preferred the former's soundtrack and also Boromir's death and the whole scene leading up to it was really well done. Also there were a few bits in TTT where they overdid the CG a bit. But I loved both and await RotK... just too bad I have an exam on the 17th.

And I won't say anything about it except that every character plays their part...

lotr 1, 2, and 3 + an ounce of weed + all day movie marathon in my local movie theater = one stoned me.

i plan on bringing a sack lunch to that shit.

I love the Lord of the Rings movie series. Truly a modern classic for sure. I can't wait to see Return of the King. I too have not read the books, so I don't really know what is going to happen.

I'm having a few of my friends over this weeking and we're going to watch the previous movies on DVD on my 5.1 surround sound.

I actually was not at all impressed with the Two Towers....it didn't flow very well, I didn't think, and they changed way too much from the book, like Treebeard and Faramir, who were entirely different characters with different motivations...that bothered me a bit. Gollum was awesome though.

speaking of Gollum, anyone want to write a 10-page paper on him for me? I'm in a Tolkien class and my essay's due next week

I read the series when I was like, 7.

So far, the movies have been incredible. They make me happy. Both were done really well. So well, that when I go see Return Of The King, I'll probably need to bring a change of pants. It's such a good ending, and such a good book in general, it's about 50 times better than Fellowship and Two Towers combined.

And the previews look incredibly bad-ass. Seriously. Good times.

I think they changed Faramir slightly, but they sorta had to. They couldn't incorporate much of his backstory into the movie, so they had to change his character a bit. The extended version does a much better job with that part, though. Treebeard, I thought was fine. Aside from not mentioning the Entwives, it didn't really seem to change him that much. He was still a bad-ass orc-smashing hardcore old tree guy. And the graphics for him are absolutely amazing. In fact, the graphics are probably one of the better parts of these movies, which is strange coming from me, considering how I don't really care about the graphics much.

Longest post I've made in a while. I'm a cool guy.

Agreed that Faramir is better in the extended version. However doesn't Treebeard mention the entwives in the long cut also? I seem to remember as much. Anyway I thought the ents were generally well done.

And the graphics were about as good as could be expected, however there were a couple instances where CG work obviously prevailed. Can't be helped I suppose; they did a remarkable job all things considered. What I am hoping is that they manage to keep Legolas' oh-so-camera-friendly stunts somewhere with the realm of believability. I highly doubt an elf could ride a shield down a staircase while firing off arrows at his usual blistering pace.

But that's just nitpicking.

I wasn't too impressed with the first one, but I think that's because I didn't realise how big Lord Of The Rings is, or how well it's portrayed in those films. I cant wait for the third one now, gonna be just as big as Revolutions (without the monumental let-down, hopefully)
