As someone who is new to this board (greetings one and all) I want to upload one of my tracks for perusal. My question is, as everyone else, I am also interested in getting signed and getting tunes released.

Does anyone have any negative experiences of putting tunes up and having them nicked? I noticed the e-bay shenanigans and also MK-S's comment about his Fractal tune. Anyone got any advice about it or good/bad experiences?

i think you should upload only samples and publish the great tunes only after you've sent it out to some labels and they didn't want the track..

I never heard anything about those e-bay shenanigans and MK-S's comments, but I think it's common sense. If your tunes are pro quality and you think there is a good chance that they can be signed, don't make them available for download. Tranceaddicts are the most sincere and kind people I know, and if someone was to rip off your tune I don't think it would be one of us. We all know the hard work involved in making a tune, but if your scared of gettin ripped off, you can do like State of Matter does. He only allows streaming of his tunes on his website. This way he offers his tune to be enjoyed by others while protecting himself as an artist. Or another idea is too allow users to download a low bitrate version of your tune, like many artist do on their websites, or even a small clip to allow users to comment and give their thoughts on the tune. I posted a clip a while back, got positive responses, sent it to a record label, and got signed. As a man of faith myself, trust in the Lord, and I good things will happen. They did for me good luck

I'm gonna send it off first but I will upload a sample of my stuff cos I'd love some feedback, you know what it's like - after the gazillionth listen it could be the worst thing in the world but you'd miss it. People seem to be pretty honest in their reviews which is good too. No point in getting extra polish for a poop.

I like the feel of this place (TranceAddicts), some boards seem full of unanswered questions, elitism and clique. I've learned loads since joining here.

Just a note, streams are not a 'safe' method of distributing your song, as they can be ripped easily.

I think I'm just going to post as I'm really wanting to improve from where I'm at and really want to get better so if I don't open my stuff up for critique I'll never improve. I'll be posting one up soon methinks!

People shouldn't be too obsessed with all this getting signed stuff.

You shouldn't be sending your demos out until you're absolutely ready, labels get hundreds of demos every week and if everyone sent their first tracks too they'd get even more...

I've never sent a single demo anywhere in my life yet me & Mart have already signed the contract with Expanse. If we hadn't put the tune up as mp3 first it would probably had never happened.
Just make sure the version you're releasing (if you get that far) isn't the same as the mp3 you put up.

Apologies to non-americans... but if you're in the US you can send a copy of your songs to the copyright office. Its sort of a third-party guarantee that you had that tune in your possesion on a certain date. I'm sure theres some other ways of doing that in other countried - you should find and and do it. I'd recommend not doing the "send to yourself copyright", because it just seems a little fishy... I mean the package is in your possesion the entire time... no third party guarantee that you didn't open it up and slip a tune in... My friend said getting a safety deposit box or something like that, that you're not allowed to open and the bank manager has a key to would be a good idea... I don't know if thats too much work but you get the idea.
