The thing with genre definitions is that they're broad and different for everyone... hence im gonna post this but let it be known that this is my opinion and i'm sure that there will be with differing views... anyway, here goes.
*Tech
sorta marco v stuff, to me its kinda repetivive and a little boring
*Progressive
gabriel & dresden, james holden, slower and the music "evolves" more, umm... forget that
*Psy
joof (a bit) but don't really know
(& goa), usually quite fast 143+ bpm and not really with 'much' tune. imagine hitting 'random' on a synthesiser...
*Acid
no idea
*NRG
nu-nrg(obviously) and alphazone, harder & faster trance, usually with really energetic melodies and they kinda make you want to dance around so much that you feel like jumping outta your skin to dance faster!?! (WTF?? nah, i'm drunk, it's cool, really)... good fucking music!!! (btw, i'm kidding bout that, lol!)

acid: heavy usage of the TB-303 synthesizer.
there can be very melodic acid tunes, such as kai tracid - pure acid
and it can range all the way up to hard acid. for example, ASYS - From past to Phuture
also, in general, you might wanna look at "ishkur's guide to electronic music". its not a complete "law" of what defines electronic music, but it is a small guide to what is what. McClicker there ya go...

pvd, tiesto, armin and ferry all pretty much fall under the uplifting trance category, yeah. oakie is playing quite a bit more on progressive side these days.
tech-trance: just the mix between techno and trance. think marco v, katana, most stuff from olivier lieb
progressive: this is waaaaaaaaaaay too broaden these days. there are lots of different stuff that can be called progressive. it's the deeper, slower, closer to house trance. think james holden, subsphere, yunus guvenen
psy: very different from all other subgenres. try stuff by astral projection and infected mushroom, you'll get the difference right away
acid: i think this is pretty much dead these days? acid is trance with a lot of 303 lines i think........ check stuff by dj misjah, not too sure if that's acid trance though
NRG: one of the 1000 names people give to hard trance.. i think. try nu-nrg, alphazone, stuff like that
