It's because e is the "major" problem right now in the drug world. E is associated to raves. Hence, the crackdown.

Not to act like its a conspiracy, but I think its because the government doesn't make a profit on it, like the it does with other things with the 'war on drugs'...

Its also a selling point for politicans to get into office - 'we're saving your kids' - they prop a few crackeads who don't know their limits on the TV, hold a senate hearing (no scientific facts used, of course) - they're pretty predictable...

It is getting worse in the US... A lotta people on the outside think that drugs is all that goes on in clubs + raves.

A year ago I could talk about it to strangers. Now its a little risky...

Speak out........

Here in Canada raves are becoming more scarce. Promoters are having an awfull time getting the required permits to hold events at places other than clubs..Law enforcement is frustrated that no matter how much money they spend they are losing the war on drugs.. No matter how you try to put it though raves are a place where there is a huge amount of drugs...therefore the crack down. There have been deaths at raves...why is it a big deal..because it is middle class white kids who are going to raves and using drugs......have you ever heard a news report about how good the music was and the vibe.Noooooooooooo " last night police busted a rave , drugs were found , there where people as young as 15 there ..blah blah blah...the media is a very powerful medium..In toronto on Sept 2, there throwing a free party to show what the electronic music scene has to offer ..good tunes, good vibes..and most of all fun..hopefully this will showcase the positve aspects of what can be with the communities support.

Cheers to all

The same thing has been said before around here... and it has ALOT of truth if you really think about it.

Essentially, it's thought of (by the media) like this:

Precious surburban white kids are in potential danger, so let's all make this activity they do, called "raving", be shown in a negative way. It will get us higher ratings because people can't help but eat this shit up without trying to understand it beyond our negative one-sided view! Bahahaha!

How about none of the above?

It's nothing new that's happening here. Think Rock & Roll, Heavy Metel. When these genres started becoming popular with youth it was something new. Something society didn't understand, so instead they feared it. And that's exactly what's happening with dance music.

But don't worry because nothing will come of it. Parents of the kids who grew up listening to Rock & Roll in the 50's learned to accept that their kids weren't going to start stealing cars and setting fire to their schools, or go to hell (it was thought of as the Devil's music) just because they listened to it. And 40 years on they came to accept that although little Johnny was now a goth, he wasn't going to slash his wrists or start eating live chickens.

At the end of the day, dance music is here and it's not going to go away and pretty soon everybody will start worrying about whatever the "kids" are into in 10 years time and leave us to love our music in peace.

Smoking ..umm..something damn the man

its all about that damn man, sitting up there on his throne and looking down on a scene, a situation that challenges the status quo

the man's scared of change, he's scared of things new and bold, scared that there might exist alternative means of experience, he's scared that his control on the world could slip should the masses start opening their fuckin eyes and realizing the greatness and good around them

so I say damn the man for ruling the world in his fascist manner, and damn the man for keeping down the people

i reckon its mainly because of these ppl not understanding the drug ecstacy. shit loads of it in the clubs... only really dangerous because theres no-one sayin what u can and cant put in the pills, and thats because its illegal. so instead of doing the sensible thing and makin sure these pillz we are munchin arnt packed with shite they are closing down the places where people do the drugs. fact is if these ppl really wanted to they could quite happily, and more securely (as in not gettin arrested) do them in their own home....

>>>duh<<< stupid governments

Im with Spad on this one. Rave culture is counter culture. Just like the hippies were. History does repeat itself cuz we(humans) are animals of habit. This will pass, once the 'truth' about the drugs are out. Really, I think the best thing we can do for our scene is to keep it clean so that cops have no reason to bust it.

On the other hand, on any given night @ a regular club, there are just as many people dropping as @ a rave or big party. (percentage wise)..why dont we hear about busts @ them? Cuz nobody cares to stop this activity. God damn politics!!
