Pioneer DJM-600 Fader Start

I can't figure out how to get the "Fader Start" on my DJM-600 to work with my CDJ-1000MKII's. I have the "control" cables hooked up properly and the fader start feature enabled on the mixer. What do I do next? In the manual it says that as soon as you move the fader to the cued deck, the deck will auto play. It's doing that for me... any ideas?

Cool

4 things i can think of...

make sure your cd deck is set to dj mode and not listening mode (cant remember the proper names, guess thats wot u get for not reading the manual)

make sure the digital out cable is connected to the same channel as the phono cables

make sure the channel switch is on cd1 or cd2, whichever you have plugged the cables into + make sure you have it in a cd channel, not a line one

its the volume fader that starts auto-play, not the x-fader. turn the x-fader off and move the volume fader from 0 to 10 sharply, it should kick in straight away, if you set a cue point, lifting the fader will start from the cue point. also if u move the fader back down to 0 the track stops, for this reason i took my digital cable out, it pissed me off far too much.

Haha, well I am not a wedding DJ, but I was just curious how it works. Thanks for your replies, I'll try out your suggestions.

does the 600 have an extra button taht you need to press so that the fader start is activated? the 3000 need have the feature turned on like that, but then you can start it with either x-fader or volume fader. Not very useful for dropping tracks as it's too imprecise when it goes live, but is useful for throwing some vocals or effects tracks over the top, anything taht doesn't need to be very accurate

Yeah, it has three fader start buttons. One for each of the CD channels (1 & 2) and one for the sampler.

Fader Start...

Hmm...As both a trance and hiphop dj, I find fader start to be very handy at times. For slamming back-n-forth on 2 or more decks, once you lock in a cue point, you can do some effects quite easily.

For example (on a set of CDJ100s/500s with DJM3/600):

Deck 1 is playing
Deck 2 is queued to the start of either a beat/synth/bass line.
(it is assumed you've already beat matched them (or don't care))
Fader start is ON for deck 2
Hit Jet/Wah. (or don't)
Move fader over on beat of deck 1 (while playing with jog wheel)
Play a bar/note, whatever on deck 2
Cut back to deck 1
Repeat until you get bored as deck 2 will jump back to your queue point until fader start is disabled.

Generally, I use this more on hiphop -to give the crowd a "preview" of the next track, than on trance, but for "killer riffs" it can be fun (gielen's "beauty of silence", airwave "superstrings", etc.)
