This one has got me stumped. My computer likes to play tricks on me a lot - usually it adds strange noises to the end result of an export, but this latest one is just bizarre.

Basically I have layered 2 differant kick drums samples (exported from a reason refill) over the top of each other using Cubase sx2. I have then EQ'd both of them - 1 to be the bottom end and one to be the top. It sounds pretty good when I play it back as two seperate WAVs in cubase. However, when I have exported it, the end result sounds much differant to what I expected. The high freq's are much higher than I had been led to believe, and the bass kick has a friendly pop at the end of it - which is easy enough to delete.

Am I doing something fundamentally wrong here - or is it my sound card playing with me? Im at a loss!

Well I have just started playing around with Cubase 2 SX. SO powerfull, but also complex program.

When I export a file, as an mp3, I get crackels and pops in the file. Does anyone know how to get rid of this?

What format are you exporting your audio mixdown as? As in how many bits, etc. Maybe that will help give us a clue.

128k,44.100khz, Stereo, 16bits

My Pc is 2.4Mhz AMD with 256mb Ram and SB Live! ALso I ran Asio drivers for my s.card.

I figured out what the problem is... if I try to use Sound Forge Graphic EQ... it starts making pops.

What EQ is a decent one and/or where can I get an EQ thats as good as that one?

I would recommend Cool Edit for mastering/eq'ing. I would also suggest you think about upgrading your RAM to at least half a gig. 256MB of RAM shouldn't be too expensive.

Are you using the UV22HR if you're using master effects? Dithering adds noise to the files.

DO NOT use Sonic Foundry graphic EQ in Cubase. Use it Sound Forge.

Personally, as nice as it is to do everything in Cubase, including master eq and compression cos you can run everything at once in real time, I think it is best to use sound forge to do all the mastering processes.

There are a lot of decent eqs out there. I take it you are looking for a parametric eq, yeah? Or do you want a graphic eq? You will get better results with a parametric.

I use the Q-10 EQ, although I'm not sure if you can buy it by itself. ITs made by waves. They make some quality products, so unfortunately, its not cheap.
