Hi-NRG is a precursor of trance, while Dance (aka Eurodance), is also closely related to Hi-NRG in its structure.

So he wants stuff that can be labelled under this umbrella genre of dance/trance, which is nothing but the houseification of trance that happened after progressive trance came around. What's there to be criticised?
