Needle Troubles

I recently got a Stanton 500 ALII (Shitty, I know, but I'm poor) and I've been having some troubles with it. The most annoying is that every once in a while the right channel will go out, and I won't hear any of the right sound. I was thinking it was because I didn't have the cart on straight or something, but jiggling it around doesn't seem to fix it, because after jiggling, it will work for a while, and then cut out.

The other problem I have with it is when I put the tonearm in the tonarm cradle thing, it makes a brief white-noise sound. Also happens if I tap the tonearm or anything. The headshell is on as tight as I can get it, and so are all the cart connections.

I suspect that both of these are due to something I fucked up, but I have the same needle on the same turntable on the other side, and have had no troubles at all.

Discuss.

I've had the same crappy pair of 500's for a while and i just recently ran into the same problem where the right side just drops out. When i was looking at the needle, I found that it was kind of tilted and sitting off center in the groove, as if the needle was only touching on side of the groove (??) If your screws arent in to tight you may be able to move the cartridge a little to get it more centered...be careful not to break anything though. Anyways this worked immediately for me so give it a try...

btw...is the 500II an ok needle to just mess around with in your home or is there something around the same price that would be better, im not talking about high end ortofons or whitelabels, just something to work at home with thanks

maybe its the tonearm or table itself. switch needles on the tables, and if there are still problems on the certain table, maybe that table is messed.. but if the problem occurs on your other table, youll know its the needle. try to isolate the problem, and then check out your warranty
