Satan (eek!) *** Thinking on buying a 2 channel mixer?

Well my first mixer was a gemini Ps-800. I have it today but I'm going to sell it in 2 weeks.
I have to think in which mixer I'm going to buy now, but??
I can see that almost all the dj's use a 4 channel mixer, but sometimes, some dj's use a 2 channel mixer ( you can see Dave Seaman using a Numark SM-1 at his last GU).
I was thinking in buying the Numark SM-2 or the Numark SM-3
Numark SM-2 has two channels and the Numark SM-3 has 3 channels. I don't know if it's necessary to have more than 2 channels.
I have two turntables and two cd players, and I can plug them all in a two channel mixer.

please tell me if its good to buy a 2 channel mixer or if its better to go for the 3 or 4 channel mixer?

and also tell me which are the best mixers. Excluding the pioneers 500 and 600.

A 3 channel mixer is not necessary, but it would be a nice thing to have just in case you ever wanted to have 3 things going at once. I would say get the Vestax PCV-275 for best value, and the Allen Heath Xone 32 for best quality.

(Prices in USD)
$350 Pioneer DJM-300 (2 channel)
$400 Vestax PCV-275 (3 channel)
$700 Allen Heath Xone 32 (3 channel)

The numark mixers you are looking at seem to be geared for scratching more than standard mixing. The ones I am recommending are under the assumption that you are going to mix house/trance.

Check out the Roland DJ-1000, it's much better than the numarks in sound and build quality, and is cheaper (it's around 350$).. it's 2 channel, has great sound quality, very durable and reliable, has a killer Filter section, MIDI clock.

Also check out the Vestax PCV-275 or the PMC-270.. they're the same except for the crossfader.

Other mixers worth checking are:

  • Pioneer DJM-300
  • Gemini UMX-9
  • Stanton RM-100

Of all those the best for Trance mixing is the Roland DJ-1000. no doubt about it.

Thumbs up DJM-300

I've been spinning for about a month and a half and I use the Pioneer DJM-300. I definitely recommend it as a beginner mixer. The equalizers are balanced (meaning they all kill to -26db) compared to the Vestax 017-A (or whatever it's called) which doesn't have balanced EQs. Also, the DJM-300 has a Trim control which is very helpful since not all vinyl is pressed at the same volume (anyone have "Piledriver" by Amoebaassassin? That song is SOOOOOOOO quiet!) The channel controls are very responsive and mixing longer mixes are easier than I expected with it. Lastly, it seems a lot of people are recommending the Pioneer DJM-5 and 600 for more advanced mixing so I like the fact that the controls on a more complicated mixer (that I'll hopefully get some day) will be familiar to me because I started with a Pioneer mixer. Hope this helps.

well i dont think the djm-300 is good at all. The only thing bad about it because of the bpm shit. waste of money i think. well if i were u i would go for vestax pmc 275. pretty nice. If u have a low budget then get anything with a kill switch. like the american dj Q221 mixer. I think its quailty mixer for the price it sells for. well if u have money i would go for the vestax!
