Calling all techno junkies, prog heads, house freaks and other elitists in general...

Some of you might know that I'm working on a guide on Electronic music and doing a very long research on the topic. Apart from the studies on how everything happened, having sound samples is also fundamental for any guide, which is the main reason of this thread to exist.

Along with the classic tunes, every genre has their "favourites" (just think of "Cafe Del Mar", "For an Angel" and "Urban Train" here on TA). Therefore, I'd like to know what people who are die-hard listeners of other genres like in their respective styles of music. I've added some guesses: feel free to correct if I'm mistaken Any further info on these genres/tunes are also welcome

Disco house:
?

Deep house:
?

French House:
Daft Punk - One more time

Progressive Trance:
Sasha - Xpander

Progressive House:
?

Nu School Breaks:
?

Trance Breaks/Progressive Breaks:
Hybrid - Unfinished Symphony

Classic Garage:
?

UK Hard House:
Cortina - Music is Moving

Techstep:
?

Hardstep:
E-Z Rollers - Meatball

Jazzstep/Intelligent Drum'n'bass:
?

Psy-trance/Goa:
Astral Projection - Mahadeva
GMS feat. Chicago - We're on a mission

EBM:
Front 242 - Headhunter

Electroclash:
Ficherspooner - Emerge
Benny Benassi - Satisfaction (Is this really electroclash? I think it is)

And tribal house, tribal techno, tribal trance, deep techno, latin house, latin techno,...

Feel free to add more genres/tunes/points of view/+1's/constructive opinions, et coetera By the way, I don't need trance recommendations, as we've already got plenty of them here in this board

Thank you for your time

I'm not sure about this.....for example, in prog trance some would say As The Rush Comes, some would say Xpander, or Junkie XL - Bon Voyage for that matter. I have only explored Electronic Music for 2 years myself, so I really can't say anything for sure. I think you'd need one poll for each sub-genre if you want the most-classicised tracks to be ranked correctly. And the voters would have to be people who knew the respective genre from balls to bones (means that person has listened to maaaaaaany tracks inside the genre and knows all its elements)

Otherwise, I believe this will end as a discussion on what's considered a sub-genre that exists or not, and so on.....But, you never know

Good luck on your analysis

Tribal and Latin techno are pretty much the same thing for me, if not very close..

Ben Sims - Manipulated (Adam Beyer remix) is a good example, and one of the first tribal techno tracks using a Latin vocal (which has afterwards been raped to death by the likes of Cave, Alegria and Monika Kruse)

Some other techno genres you should consider are acid techno and hard techno (the utter crap Rush, Remus, Stephan & Vincent de Wit,... are spitting out, and which sounds like a chainsaw attack to a metal plant to me).. Can't really give you any recommendations on those subgenres though..

Oh yeah, don't forget to place Rolando - Knights of the jaguar somewhere in a genre as well, it's really a techno classic..

Good luck with it, it's hard to place something in a particular genre, I usually don't bother since everyone thinks different about it.. I have only two genres: 'good' and 'bad'.

I'm not sure what kind of House this is, but "Size 9 - I Am Ready" sounds like a classic. Released 1997 or so.

for me French House is synonymous with Disco House
(I call it pretentious-sweaty-french-disco-house )
for that I would put pretty much any Daft Punk track pre-2000
DJ Cassius - 1999
Stardust - Music Sounds Better
or something by Dimitri From Paris or something
possibly Les Rhythmes Digitales - Jacques Your Body
check out the Respect is Burning compilation series for classic tunes

for Prog-Breaks, I would put down Virgin Souls - Personality (James Zabiela's Oh So Deep Mix)

For tribal-techno and latin-techno respectivly, I'm not sure if they would be considered classics, but certainly they are perfect examples for the genres:
Cave - Street Carnival / the Carne Levale EP for tribal, Monika Kruse - Latin Lovers for latin. Both were big hits last year.
There is A LOT of overlap between tribal and latin techno though.

What about Tech-House, Schranz Techno, Minimal Techno, Detroit Techno, etc?

Hehe, there's a subtle difference between disco house and french house, but I may merge them if I realise the difference is more subtle than I find it now Nice tunes, by the way

They're close indeed As Beema said...

... reason why I shall group these together despite of its differences (but I'll explain what is what, obviously )

I'm gonna look for these As for Acid Techno, I've got some already, as I really love the genre

Indeed, reason why I'm studying it. Techno is a tricky genre though: sometimes you can get a more accurate definition by specifying the place of origin (American Techno, European Techno and Asian/Latin American techno).

Indeed, this is the reason why I said in my post I want the help from "elitists", because they're the ones who know their favourite genre better than anyone else Having a massive amount of posts would be a good idea, but there could be problems, not to mention it would flood the polls section pissing Coup off
