I think humidity is an oft unthoughtof factor when trying to gauge how loud a fart is going to be.

For the fat people I think its more of a bubble of gas moving through and it creates a vacuum of sorts. When it finally reaches daylight the tenso-elasticty of the flab makes it violently clash back together again. This creates a rebound effect due to the bouncy nature of fat. The succeeding gas bubbles create greater and greater subsequent vibrations due to the laws of fluid dynamics.
