UK Hard House synths?

Alright... I love some of the typical UKHH synth sounds. I just can't figure out how to create some of them. Tips, anyone?

The original "hoover" was a preset on the Roland Alpha Juno 2. I've also created one on the Alpha Juno 1 (which can be had for pretty cheap) with good results. Just have a look around for hoover samples - there's tons of stabs floating around out there. Load them up into your sampler and away you go.

I'd prefer to try and recreate those stabby sounds if possible. I don't like using samples, partly for copyright reasons, but mostly because of the lack of control over the sound.

with one-hit notes, copyrights are not an issue. (if you were to sample an entire riff, then you'd be looking at copyrights.)

The ReFX Juno X2 is OK, but not fantastic. It doesn't compare to the real alpha sound.

With the right hoover samples and a good sampler, you'll have almost as much control over the sound as you would with the real thing. (Alpha Junos aren't known for their modulation matrix)

great thread, im working on something thats dying for a hoover right now. I have a sampled hoover riff im using as a base line (not bass line) currently, but im looking for something VSTi to emulate that darkness found in current UK HH. So far I have come up pretty much blank, bar one evil tweak to a hoover patch I made in the JunoX2.

There used to be a hoover site going around, but it seems down these days. Probably one shot stabs are the way to go for sampling hoovers and making your riff, hard house isnt really that melodic anyway so you can get away with an arrangement purely of well placed stabs, although you have to be a lot more innovative with it than a few years back.
