What is the best soundcard to use for recording?

Well that is, what is the most affordable best sound card to use for recording. Price range $100 to $500, I bought a Maudio Audiophile 2496, not very impressed with it, sound is ok and volume kinda low even though I have all the settings up high. What card do you use?

get an audigy card from creative labs. plus alot is about how good your speakers are.

I have the Audigy 1 soundcard, it's ok. Are you referring to the Audigy 2? But the speakers shouldn't affect the quality of your recording.

I heard MACs are good for music purposes.

LOL! Are you kidding with the Audigy? Get either M-Audio or Terratec for recording. Forget Creative Labs!

I'd say go M-Audio just record your mix at a louder volume with the program that your using.

Don't forget the Echo Mia - I have one and it works very well. Excellent sound and low latency. Even the tech support at Echo were very helpful when I couldn't get it to work.

With all the praise that the M audio gets. I have a feeling you need to tweak some settings to make it sound better. Or could be a crappy mixer
