well one good way not to kill your records is use as little tracking force as necessary. Oh and BTW, im still waiting to hear how your first mixed set sounds

so i guess you've learned real mixing is alot different from the computer but don't forget, you can also do more creative things w/ decks than you can with just software.

To make it even better try to mix from vinyl to traktor. That's when it gets really fun :P

how do I go about mixing from traktor to vinyl? the mix will get done sometime soon... expect in a week or so if i can figure out how to record it. I guess the main difference between vinyl and traktor for me is songs in traktor start instantaneously while my decks take .8 seconds to get going... that makes it a tad tough.

how are you cueing the records blue?

When you cue a record, you first start the platter so it's spinning underneith and you carefully hold the record in place w/ your fingertips. Then you rock the record back and forth over the desired cue point. When you are ready to start the record, you release it and it will catch on.

Kinda hard to explain, but once you figure it out it makes it much easier.

LOL...yea I hate it when somebody says its easy and they could do it, one of my buddies thought this, so I said I'll give him afew minutes and all he has to do is beatmatch and sync the 2 records, they don't have to sound good or have any EQin going on, and I tiold him if he can do that, he can have my setup and anything else in my room, well after him getting pissed cos he couldn't, well, lets just say I can still spin in my room.

when i was in a band in high school, there was this guy that could pretty much master any instrument you would throw at him. I was totally amazed. He played trumpet, drums, guitar, and keyboard while recording w/ us. I remembered one day after practicing and recording, he wanted to learn how to scratch and beatmix. I swear that was the only thing he couldn't play! So me being a cool friend, i loaned him a stanton sk-4, 500al2, str8-60 and gave him a ton of battle records and simple house records to practice. Still to this day he is not comfortable w/ the mixing concept like he is w/ other instruments.


I kinda wished our band actually stayed together long enough to record a actual album. And i kinda wished i stayed in production and scratching.

Thats cool about your friend being good with instruments, but weird he can't learn how to mix fully, kinda good to hear, cos so many people think theres nothing to it.

Don't wanna jack the thread but, why did you stop Producing and Scratching?, I can see how a band can fall apart, needs everyone to stick together, but your on your own when scratching or producing.

someone should write up a turntablism 101 of sorts for us who want to learn to get started on. just some basics so we get the idea.
