Cubase Sx 2 controlling softsynths + midi device manager

Ok I love softsynths and all, but I need to have an easy way to control them. I have plenty of controler synths, yamaha ex5, nord lead 3, etc etc. So I understand that I use generic remote, unless someone already has a present for these? After that I really don't know shit. I understand looking up values, but not all are there.

Similarly I attempted to learn the midi device manager. I made setups to control my synths, ie the emu extreme lead for example. I got this to control channel one fine, but not on all the other channels. It gets to a point that guessing is just not a option when there are 128*128 values=16384 possible combinations.

I read the cubase manual as well as my instruments manuals, they don't help. This has seriously hindered me in liking softsynths because they are a pina to integrate into my system. I can play the synth, and assign the knobs cool, but I want to save these settings so I can load them again etc.

Yea that's been a problem for me too. I wish it's as easy to do as it is in Orion.

Some VST instruments comes with a .ini file that will allow you to save the midi CC numbers in the softsynth so that they match up to your controller.a

Ok that is easier, thanks for the tip on that one. In addition I would enjoy using all the knobs on my jomox to control volume etc. I guess it is just stabing in the dark really.

this is shot in the dark, but wouldn't it be easier to use midi learn function on the synths you want to control?

Well, if you want to control all of your VSTi's and need an integrated 32 channel mixer, 8 balanced audio inputs, full 24/96 integration, MIDI interface, 2 DSP effect units, full 4 band parametric EQ & dynamics on every channel and fully fledged sequencer (cubase, reason, logic, sonar etc.) control surface in a firewire box you could buy a Yamaha 01X.

The 01X will controll all VSTi paramaters via it's knobs and fader strips, and further more the names of each control parameter will appear on the LCD channel strip so you know what does what.

Saves you having to remember which button for each synth, eh ?

'Course it will cost you a packet, but imagine all the things you could do.

You couldn't pay me to buy one of those shitty control surfaces because it is not going to allow me to use my gear and every softsynth so what is the point. I seriously hate these softsynths and programing because every different company has a different protocol, while not listing how to program it.

I wish there was an easy answer, but life actually sucks and easy is just not possible. Smoke more weed kid, life is hard.

It's cubase that is the probelm for me. Most softsynths have either midi cc# on pictures that can be found on webpages, or have a midi learn feature. Those are realtivly easy to use, the hardware interfacing with cubase is a nightmare. I'm sure it would not be any better with other software either. Unless you buy the hardware that is designed for software, such as the digi 002 for protools le, or the houston controller for cubase.

I should be able to control cubase from my nord lead 3, but good luck on me learning it. I can figure out the cc#'s easily in my nord lead 3 via the manual, but this cubase stuff is nuts! The manual basiclly leaves this section out, void of any knowledge for programing the generic remote, or the midi device manager for that note also. It is a really horrible situation and I could spend another year trying to figure it out, still not getting anywhere. Thanks steinberg, I am glad I purchased your product.
