Many of the European league matches are never televised in Canada so people aren't exposed to those games.
I think people just like to be patriotic when their country is playing, whether they know anything about football or not.
Btw, did anyone hear the latest excuse as to why the Italians didn't win their game? Something about their socks being uncomfortable... give me a fucking break. If their is one team I want to get spanked out of the entire competition, its them. That would surely quiet every annoyingly outspoken Italian in Toronto.

Does anyone follow the world track and field championships throughout the entire 4 years, or do they turn on the 100m finals every 4 years. It's the same thing , of course the bigger tournaments draw larger audiences.....
and by the way, who the hell is FC Milano?
