Bush Mental health plan

Cross posted from a friend -- What do you guys think? (Paranoia and abrasiveness aside)

"Should the Bush administration be allowed to enact a program to deal with mental health?...
Enter the President's New Freedom Initiative for People with Disabilities.

Already, the plan is building praise and criticism. Remember - in the past, the criticism for Bush medical programs have been genuine, while any praise has been falsified. And... there is a far more alarmist concern.

If you are screened and found to have a mental disorder, your civil rights and privileges can be revoked as you may be a risk to yourself or others. You may be forced into treatment programs or forced to take mind altering medications. In short, if the Bush administration really wanted to turn the entire public of America into servile drones - this program could be the tool to achieve that while hiding under the guise of mental health care...

I'm not normally worried about these kinds of things. But I already see a pattern here, and then there's Eli Lilly.

Eli Lilly is based in Indiana, and makes nearly all the mind altering drugs used in the US. Bush Sr was on Eli Lilly's board of directors and Bush Jr appointed Lilly's CEO to a senior position on the Homeland Security Council, who is now currently making plans to run for governor in Indiana as a Republican. Lilly made $1.6m in political contributions in 2000—82% of which went to Bush and the Republican Party. Bush's commission has recommended that the federal government adopt a model based on the Texas Medication Algorithm Project (TMAP) a medication treatment plan that recommends Zyprexa as a first line antipsychotic drug for patients. Bush was governor of Texas when the plan was adopted, and Zyprexa coincidentally happens to be made Eli Lilly. It's the drug company's top seller, grossing $4.28 billion dollars last year. According to the article, "A 2003 New York Times article by Gardiner Harris reported that 70% of olanzapine sales are paid for by government agencies, such as Medicare and Medicaid."

The Bush administration has consistently abused power, or has changed our government so that the abuse of power is far more easily done, and far harder to stop...
To think that they might be building a program that allows them to define what is the standard for sanity is...
...what? -what is the word I'm looking for?"

Yeah I've been hearing about this a bit. Sounds a bit daft to me given that very few "mental illnesses" can be diagnosed objectively... or even proven to exist. But daft is about par for the course for the Bush administration unfortunately.

Don't know what the Bush program is proposing. All I've seen here is slander against it.
