yes you can, the gain switch is the actual volume of the track, while the channel fader is a percentage of that gain, so you should always hear the effects of the gain switch in pretty much any mixer.
yeah just wack up the gain on the track, then when its beatmatched turn the gain down to where it needs to be then switch it to split cue while you do the mix. or learn to beatmatch with just one ear in the phones. its always a safe bet to be able to do it like this, you never know what kind of setup you will have plus its actually a lot better for getting results (as opposed to mixed cueing) as you can pick out the other track much easier and quicker.
