Techno and Trance are gay and repetitive

Yeah.... I bet the subject caught your attention didn't it???

Well... now u know what it's like....

I live in Australia, and believe me, Trance is very unfamiliar to people down here. In fact, apart from some of my mates, there isn't anyone in this country I've met yet that really likes Trance... Other than the commercial stuff Like Skitz Mixx, and Wild FM, which are almost always just "10 second trance", which a lot of people here seem to only listen to because they want to be cool (thouh they probably still won't know sort of musci they're listening to).

If anyone asks me what sort of music I listen to, I always say techno, because if u say trance... they won't know what ur talking about.... People don't have a clue what the differnce between House, PsyTrance, Trance, Breakbeat, Techno, Acid Jazz, etc is... Mention Electronica, no-one will have a clue what that is.

Usually, people here are just listening to what everyone else is listening to... I get ragged by rockers and Rappers the most for my music preferences. EDM (no-one knows what that is) here is called "Techno Shit". I'm told it's repetitive crap... and it's not music at all, just stuff made by a computer... I'm told to "listen to REAL music, not stuff made by computers". People will make all kinds of fun out of ya down here...

I'm curious to know what attitudes are like overseas.... And I need somethign to respond to when others when they make such comments. What the hell do u guys do in environments like this??? Trance is good music, it shoudl be promoted without loosing it's touch....

Suggestions anyone???

Doesn't happen a whole lot in Holland that people don't know what Trance is, but I've been in the US for a year and over there I usually either say Trance and let them figure out what it means or if I want to get rid of them I'll just say Techno, although that is usually associated with all sorts of weird things.

Which part of oz u living in?

I would say most people in australia who like EDM have become jaded, the psy ppl hate the techno ppl, the prog ppl hate someone else so on and so fourth.

I would say australia had a very healthy trance scene and its only getting better. At the end of the day you wont get half the population liking one type of music, its just like wanting them all to like the same color.
Musical tastes are personal and i really couldnt care if many people dont like the same as i do. At the end of the day its about yourself and what pleases you.

The ironic thing about that is that Hip Hop is made by computers too. Just shows how ignorant humans can become.

We have kind of like the same problem here, stupid psy-trance queer fans confuse Progressive House with Eurodance.

You are going to find that kind of ignorance everywhere. Here in America, most people refer to electronica as "Techno". I always correct people and they look at me like I'm retarded for actually knowing about the shit. Hip-Hop seems to dominate a lot everywhere. When I visited Norway last summer, all I heard was Hip-Hop and sorry diva house (I mean bad house, not all house is bad, but this was horrible). The nature of electronica and trance is still a little bit underground, although it is growing in popularity. In Denver, we don't even have any radio stations that play EDM. We had one and it rotated "Burning for you", "Take me Away" and "Will I" all day. It sure seemed that way anyway, and was off the air within a couple of months.

I just don't worry about the comments that closed minded, unenlightened people have to say. If they won't even give the music an honest listen with an open mind, I won't give their crap ass argument a listen either. In one ear, out the other.

just tell the rockers that the keyboards they use, are also computers, let's see what they have to say about that
anyways, they're all instruments, whether it's a guitar or a pc. despite what people say u can't just walk up to a pc and make a track, it takes a lot of time to master it.
and what is this crap about trance not being real music. ofcourse it's music, cuz it has melodies, rhythms etc....
tell the rocker to be thankful there is an alternative to rockmusic, since i don't wanna be familliar with such narrowminded potheads.....

yeah...

no actual suggestion for you, but i know what that is like. i always have to tell people that i listen to techno because they don't have any idea what trance is and probably couldn't distinguish between the two if their lives depended on it. it totally sucks, but i've shown my close friends (however rock or hiphop they might be) what prog and trance are, they even listen to my mixes sometimes.

my advice would be to show your close friends what it is and tell everyone else to stfu. thats basically what i;ve done, and it works well.

No need to knock on pot heads now. I know plenty of stoners that love electronica. But I know what you meant. Just had to say it.
