Help - Looking To Go Into CD Mixing

yo guys

Im looking to get some cd decks possibly very soon
i have a 2 week job with good income for decks

max ill have to spend is £600-£700

Im not an expert at finding them, so any good advice on what to get will be good

CD decks quite simply because i cant really afford vinyl every week, and im not a full 100% expert yet, although i do alot of mp3 mixing on my pc =)

Cheers

keith

ps any mp3 decks if they exist would rock lol

If you buy anything less, you will be wasting your money. It is better if you wait, otherwise if you want to upgrade, ur old cd players will be worth a fraction of the price. buy one now and wait till christmas. Trust me!

I was in your postion last year and maybe I can give you some good advice.

dont spend alot of money on some super cd deck. All those functions are worthless. I had the Denon Dn S 5000 and I rarely used all that crap.

Most importantly , if you plan to spin trance or house music your sstyle and selection will suffer if you only do cds. I highly reccomend that you save up and get turntable and vinyl. I know its expensive but you have to find a way to do it. Stop spending money on food or clothes or porn and dedicate it to vinyl.

I recommend that you buy a dual rack mount cd player. I reccomend Denon. Its around $500. This is perfect for mixing. And all you need. Dont spend $2000 on a cd deck !! Thats ridicilous! If you have the $$$ or opening a club than Pioneer MKII is the best Cd deck out there. But as a beginer there's no need.

Save your money and get th follwing:

2 techincs
1 Denon dual rack mount cd deck

Dont make the same mistake I made. Trust me, Vinyl is where most of the new music and alot of old trance music is. Cd are cool for those hard to find tracks , "ok " songs, tricks, etc. Get both and master both and yolu be on your way to be the next PVD

I agree that getting both vinyl and cd decks are a good idea, but I wouldn't say that vinyl is where most of the new music is. You can get a lot of new tracks now through legal download services and they are more easily available than some records are. Some tracks are even available through these services before they are available on vinyl. Re:Locate - Typhoon/Fortitude was on Audio Jelly 2-3 weeks before the 12" promos were available for sale anywhere.

Here is my advice for Keith. If you want to get cd decks, get the Pioneers. They are what Technics 1200s are for vinyl. You can't go wrong with them. If you buy them and don't like them, you can sell them on eBay and pretty much get most if not all of your money back as long as you keep them in good condition. If you buy a cheap cd deck, then you will have to upgrade later if your serious about DJing, and you may not get much in return if you try to sell back those decks.

If I were you, I would have posted this in the DJ'ing advice forum, since more people there are liable to post on this subject. Also, disregard the guy who's telling you to get CDJ-1000MKIIs. Sure, they are the industry standard, but if you're just starting out, there's no way you need to spend that much money. I personally have my eye on the CDJ-800s which offer most of the features of the CDJ-1000MKIIs but can come in at $500 american (w/ price matching) vs. $1000+. I don't how much they cost in England (it's not just a straight conversion - I could do that). Also, you really only need individual decks if you're interested in scratching. If you're only going to be beatmatching, then get dual CD decks like some of the others mentioned. Furthermore, like I said before, if you post in the DJ forum you'll probably get a wider variety of responses.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Think i might just wait a bit till xmas and see what special clearance sales there are and ill have more money, as it isnt that long away, and i make a huge amount working at xmas. I will be getting cheap decks whatever i choose. Im not taking mixing a huge thing at the moment. I mix mp3s with traktor for my own enjoyment and nothing else. Hearing 2 songs going together seems to give me a good rush

Still good websites for decks etc would be good. I dont usually spend alot of time browsing the net for stuff like this. Lots of new technology gets confusing really lol

Yes but if he becomes better he will spend another fortune upgrading and if he quits they will be worth nothing. If you get the real daddies then you can resale them or keep them forever
