I'm over here in France visiting my dad for the summer, and my "vacation" is almost done (I leave back to LA tomorrow). But this has been nagging me the whole time I've been here.
My Dad is 62 and he survived lung cancer in 96' and a brain tumor in 00', both attributed to smoking. (2 packs per day for 23 years). He's already gettin pretty old and tired from the last two therapys that hit hard. He got slower and he can't remember things well at all.
Earlier this year I got news that he had a tumor in his kidney. He's been getting treatment for that for 6 months. Halfway through my vacation here (month ago) he got back from a check up and the doc says the tumor has spread to his lung and liver.
Now...I hate to think about this. But I can sense deep inside that this really isn't good news. It's really hard to confront this thought, but I don't think his chances for overcoming this are very good. And this whole mess is really messing me up. I've almost been ignoring it for the past few weeks...but tomorrow might be the last time I get to see him.
It's almost like one of those movies where father and son say their last goodbyes...it's excruciating to think of it that way...but him surviving this would be a miracle...
All I can do is hope.
Thanx for readin.

Well it's almost 2am...
It's not the fact that I'm leaving that most bothers me in fact...its that he actually might die.

Think of it as if he's just fine..Go spend time with him, have your laughs...IF I WERE YOU, i would have the best of memories with him during hard times like these..nd if the worst does happen....you have those beaufitul memories to share with your self and family and friends...DOnt let him go away that easy.....sometimes i feel as if i take my dad for granted...and that sucks...i better stop.

Clovis...I'm really sorry to hear that. You definitely need to be there for your father. Even if you have to go back to LA make sure that you are easily accessible. Part of healing is also mental. The human body can do some amazing things if the will is there to see it through. Depression can rob people of their will to live and inspiration can bring it back. Always strive to be that inspiration for your father. I know this is stating the obvious and I'm sure that you would do nothing short of that. I know I haven't known you that long (month or two), but if you ever need someone to talk to I would be more than happy to listen. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
As someone (TB) said in his MSN name recently...make each moment count.

We had a great time this whole vacation. Laughed...I took lots of pictures of him and my mom having fun. But I cant just go sit with him because I think he's gonna die...I don't want him to get that impression...
