Deep thoughts underneath my tin foil hat

So I'm just sittin' here at work, pretending to be busy whenever I hear my supervisor walk by, when an interesting thought occurred to me. Strangely, it wasn't a political thought this time, but on religion instead. So here it goes:

I'm sure most of you are familiar with Revelation in the Bible. Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins have made an absolute killing (no pun intended) on this strange and morbid, apocolyptic biblical story. Both writers have taken this cryptic story and have followed a more, let's say fundamentalist interpretation of the story. In a nutshell, the true Christian believers will instantly disappear off the earth and fly right into heaven, while the vast majority of non-believers are left behind here on earth to exchange death blows over one another while ol' Beelzebub rises to conquer the earth over the whole fiasco. So the rest of us infidels, spare some 144,000 or so Jews, will die a horrible, eternal death. So in case you're wondering, and if you haven't put 2+2 together, that means that anyone outside of a true Christian believer and a about 150k Jews, are all going to burn and perish eternally. That includes all Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, etc. etc. That's some cheery ethnic cleansing, huh? And to think these guys are making millions off that thought!

Okay, here's my question: given the huge popularity of Lahaye's books, sermons, and even movies (anyone remember Kirk "Tiger Beat heart-throb" Cameron?), what would happen if there was an Islamic version of this Revelation story, demonstrating the massacre of literally billions of non-Muslims by God? And what if this book was selling millions across the globe, and movies were created out of it? How well do you think us Americans, being the "Christian Nation" that we are, would receive it?

the Kirk Cameron reference flew right over my head.

i suppose us non-muslims would have to be familiar enough with the religion to understand it and be genuinely concerned. even though that sounds reasonable, the fact is we really don't give a flip either way, whether your religious or not, that they do not understand our culture enough to be concerned or care.

Yeah, I watched E!'s "True Life Story" on Cameron, and I wholeheartedly concur. But really, wasn't he and DeCaprio so darn cute back on Growing Pains?

Ok, back to topic. Why are you always throwing me off on tangents like that?

Woman killed by falling cross
Thursday, September 23, 2004 Posted: 1252 GMT (2052 HKT)

ROME, Italy (Reuters) -- A 67-year-old woman was killed when a three-meter (10-foot) tall metal crucifix fell on her head in a small southern Italian town on Wednesday, police said.

The cross, which has been in the main square on Sant'Onofrio for decades, fell on Maddalena Camillo while workers were setting up lights for an annual religious festival.

Italy, home to the Vatican City, is a predominantly Roman Catholic country where crucifixes and religious icons and effigies are a common sight in most towns and villages.

Okay, maybe this thought of mine should turn political:

There probably is such a book but written in arabic. I think it goes by the name Koran or other.

I don't think anyone has yet made a movie titled "The Last Tempatation of Mohammed" or "The Passion of the Mohammedan". But we can wish so we don't have to read the book.

Islam is pretty strict on icons and images. Have you ever seen a picture of Mohammed? Think of the condemnation a movie would get - the director would be stoned before its premier.

I don't think there is a hollywood director or producer brave enough to touch that issue.
