I'm looking to get some new headphones, not quite sure of what all the terminology is.. so what characteristics make up a good head phone
Also, not looking to spend more than $70 right now

Frequency repsones?
Driver size?
Supraaural(what does that mean?)
Sensitivity?
Dynamic?(what does that mean?)

'frequency resonse' is basically the sound frequencies it will pick up and put out. generally you want to look for a range around 10-20000hZ, although some headfones will start down at 8 and go up to 25000hZ.

driver size is just the size of the speaker cone (driver). i wouldn't be too bothered about this, its the other specs you need to look at.

'supraural' means that they sit on your ear as opposed to going around your ear. this is more down to the user's preference. i personally prefer the ones that go around your ear.

'dynamic' is the driver type. it means they are more heavy duty and don't rely on a very thin membrane within the driver, it has a moving coil instead. in proffesional circumstances (i.e. djing, where they get a lot of hammer) people hardly use condenser headphones anymore as users prefer the heavy duty attributes of the moving coil, and the ability to put out higher SPL's (sound pressure levels) without damaging the membrane. sound quality is very high in a condenser headphone, but you will find that if you drop them you are screwed.

sensitivity is to do with the SPL the headfone can output with a certain amount of power input. usually measured in dB/mW.

have a look at sennheisers, you cant go wrong with them, they are fantastic headphones with great sound quality

Just wondering why you have a link to a rock band if you are a trance DJ.... The Mugget Queen is hot, reall nice t*ts too lol. I'm not one for indie rock, but the streamin song on the website is pretty cool too

The sony mdr-V6 is also known as the mdr-7506. The only difference is the gold connector on the 7506.

I also agree about sennheisers, i own a couple of pairs of hd280pros and they are most likely the best sounding for around $100. They just seem a little large and bulky, but they perform better than many headphones i've used, including the mdr-v900. The only bad thing is the plastic sleeve part of the headband will start cracking. Many people, including me on two pairs, has had this problem. Luckly sennheiser has a two year warranty, and the cracks don't really effect performance.

As for the v6/7506, they are indestructable, and will last forever. They also haven't changed much in the past ten years, so you know sony has actually made something right for a change.

BTW... Not all of us here are trance djs. I spin mostly progressive house now. I've just gotten sick of many of the other dj forums that i was on. Well people, use the search function.

ive got the mdr-v700 by sony and i love them. i have them on right now... they are a little over 100 dollars and i think the sound quality, the frequency responce, and just about everything else about these headphones are perfect in my opinion.

The best thing to do when it comes to headphones is go to the store and give them all a listen for yourself, To everyone headphones will sound different, For example, D-res loves his V700s, I had a pair back in 01' and to me they sounded very boomy, w/ very tinny treble, and muffled mids. Once they died on me i quickly ditched them for hd280s and so far they're my favorite pair that i've owned. I also like the sound of sony 7506/v6 but the pads are way too small for my ghetto large ears so i didn't buy those. So just go out there and give them all a shot.

I'm going to reccomend you stay far, far, far away from the Sony v700s. I bought a pair and took only the finest care of them - shit, they rarely left my house. After about a year they began to crack, then the right channel died out, then they cracked completely. I got myself some v7506 and haven't looked back.

The v700s are flimsy, cheaply made, and sound like shit compared to many other headphones out there. Don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise.

Remember, if you're looking strictly for a DJ headphone then there are plenty of options. A DJ headphone is a tool, it's job is to let you beatmatch. It's ok if it sounds too boomy or whatnot - that can actually be a plus, when you're standing under a gigantic club sound system. But if you want a headphone that you can not only use for DJ'ing, but also to listen and chill with, go with the v6/v7506 or sennheiser hd 280.

Woah, really? ive had my mdr-v700s for about 6 months, still pumping out great sound and no wear on them. I only use them when i mix though, for the computer i have had my mdr v250's held together by crazy glue. These tiny things have been dropped, stepped on, ripped (cusion) and probably blasted to hard, still alive an kicking, perfect computer headphones hehe. If my mdr-v700s give out, then maybe i would consider going with pioneer or senheiser, or even maybe the new technics headphones, anyone know anything about those?

Alota people i know that had v700s said they tend to die right after the warranty expires. Mine had lasted me about 2yrs, but after listening to many other headphones, including sennheiser's hd570, i found out how much the sonys do suck.
