Getting better speed out of MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator)
I often find that even titles from 10 -- 12 years ago run very slowly on my 800 MHz system with MAME. I'm using the latest CLI MAME version 0.88 with the EasyMAME frontend and I don't know how to finetune this. Anyone on here use MAME on a system around Pentium 3-speed? Do I just need to upgrade to a much faster system, like 3.2 GHz with a lot of RAM, top-of-the-line graphics card and fast hard drive in order to run titles from today or at least within the last year via MAME? Thanks. What should I stay away from in the meantime if it really has to do with my system being slow?

I cant remember what mame version do I have but there is no diference from speedwise from my old system 2ghz 512 ram to my new system 3.4ghz 1g ram. I donīt know but most of the games I have are ages old when comps were 48X or even earlier, donīt recall games that would need huge resources to run, what games are you runing? I have som Street fighter alpha series and some other fighter games, none of them ran slow on any of the systems...
regarding the MAME I got some neo geo games that I ran with the neo geo emulator but I canīt run it anymore, I tried runing them in mame but no luck, any ideas?

Sounds weird to me. I used to use MAME on a 900mhz Duron and as far as I can recall every game played fine.

The kinds of games I want to play at full speed? Mortal Kombat series, Tekken Tag, any other games from within last 8 years. Anyone know of where I can get more 'stuff' for MAME? Anyone even want to PM me about it if they have stuff worthy of getting for it?

my possible and only guess is that the games ARE running fine. due to hardware limitations a while back, and the relative upgrade new games have - they might just look like shit, as they likely did back then|

No. I mean, on my system, I'm getting slowdown and sound stuttering/repeating/skipping. The graphics themselves actually look OK...
