dr. cosa on sandwhiches

"sandwhiches and shook ones, part 2".

i wondered what the nature of sandwhiches really are, does a sandwhich exist only as the sum of all its parts or does it become something more than just bread, meat, cheese and conditments when slapped together?

does every possible combination of sandwhich already exist in the hearts of men simply waiting to be discovered?

food and sex constitue the majority of my thinking. usually i think about sex while eating in order to attain a sense of oneness that only comes from home cooked, and lovingly prepared meals.

my usual haunt is a veal sandwhich shop at my work. the owners and staff all know me, when im 20 feet away, they start carving out a veal with hot peppers, grilled onions and mushrooms. i convinced them one day to toast the sandwhich in one of those grill presses that makes it really crispy and compact. im the only person they do it for (that i know of) and surely i would spin wildly into a jealous rage should i find out its done for others.

those veals are my zen.

veal sandwhiches are a capricious and ever-fleeting lover, my relationship with this sandwhich shop is both real and lasting. the upsides are great, but as with all precious things in life it comes at a price: my 2nd favourite sandwhich place is right next door, i cant go there anymore for fear of igniting their passions and loosing my privilaged veal status; something that has taken over 4 years and 50 colestrol points (the bad ones) to obtain.
no, i will relinquish my right to choose where i eat in favour of the glories of my most prized veal sandwhich spot!!

the sandwhiches arent always at the level of perfection i crave, sometimes im not even that hungry but i eat them anyway, and i guess thats what relationships are all about: the small sacrafices you make for the greater good of whats in your heart. for some its their significant other, their parents, jobs or pets. for me its a place called Casa Mana on the concourse level at Simcoe place, serving up some of the best veals from the bottom of their hearts to the heart of toronto's financial district.

too bad they didnt tack on an extra day in the book of Genesis, i have a feeling on the 9th day the good lord would have said: "let there be veal"....

an old tibetian saying goes something like this:

"he who eats poorly digs his grave with a knife and fork. "

i eat sandwhiches with my hands, so i guess ive got a long way to dig!!!
