There's going to be some interesting fall out from this though, particularly with some cabinet ministers. For example, the MP from my home town of Thunder Bay (Joe Commuzzi) is a junior cabinet minister that is strongly opposed to same sex marriage. Parliamentary tradition however, suggests that all cabinet members must collectively support any legislation that the government puts forward, and if they are not comfortable doing so, they must resign. Given the current minority government, I highly doubt Martin will allow some of his cabinet ministers to abstain from voting, so in this case, Mr. Commuzzi will either have to support the bill or have little choice but to resign from cabinet. Apparently there are a few others in cabinet in a similar position.
