I have about £500 to spend on a single CD deck. I'm only interested in top brands like Pioneer, Denon and Technics.

I would like MP3 capabilities.

Voted : Buy the CDJ800 now.

Why? : Perfect player for home-dj'ing. Nice platter, no-nonse player and does what it has to do. Play CD's.

Looping : Works, but you need to adjust speed most of the time.
Reverse : Why need that?
Vinylmode : Works real fine. You (allmost) can play it like a TT.

CDJ-1000 : Nice player... a bit expensive for the "extra" display feautures you're getting. (Wavedisplay etc,..)

Denon : Didn't like them. Belt-driven platter, functions are not on the place where you expect them. It's a top notch player but you have to learn to play'em.

Technics : bad display (small) Feels like plastic. Correction behaviour could be better (missing a spindle) a very sensitive pitch.

Numark : Nice scratching! But ugly... (If you're going to scratch.... this is THE cd player.

[edit] Now I noticed you want MP3 function on it. If you're less 'lazy' just burn Audio CD's and go for the 800. If you really really really need it to play MP3...then buy a Denon. [/edit]

Yo groovejunk, thanks for your recomendation...I currently have two SL1210 MK3s and Pioneer DJM600, have been mixing MP3 using PC software for a while. I do more DJing on the road professionally rather than bedroom - just thought getting one CD player would give me more variety in my sets as I have a huge every increasing catalogue of digital audio. I'm not fussed about MP3 playback from CD but it would be really handy. I'll wait a week before splashing out to see what other members think.

Basically I was undecided between denon s3000 and cdj 800. In the end i have pretty much decided on the denon, becuase of the sampler and 0.02 pitch accuracy (0.05 on the cdj800). And ive heard lots of positive comments about the build quality of the denons, with a metal casing as opposed to the plastic build of the cdj800.


If you were to save up, in my opinion the only product you should be saving up for is the cdj1000 (which i would always take over the denon s5000), and as for the techs cd player, have a look at the clip which shows the awlful scratch emulation in comparsion the denons and pioneer.

If you can save a bit more money, buy the CDJ1000 (if you earn cash with you're dj-ing) it's realy worth it then.

I use 2 CDJ1000MK2's and 1 CDJ800. I prefer the 1000's. They just have a little more 'body' and feel.

If you can affort the 1000's... go for it. for home use only?--> the 800.

djsanctuary: I was in a very similar situation to you about three months ago and bought a CDJ800. I'm very pleased with it. I haven't tried any of the other models mentioned above but as someone who's used to mixing with 1210's, I found the 800 a breeze to use. Got the hang of it in a couple of hours.

If MP3 playback is an important factor for you, then you should probably look at a different machine but I've been very happy with my CDJ800 - so much so that I went and bought another one a couple of days ago.

Looks like i'll wait a fe wmore weeks and then splash out on a Pioneer CDJ1000 MK2. Any news of a Mark 3 model?!?

I have the Pioneer 1000 Mk2 and am very happy with it.
The functions on there may seem a little bit of a mystery at first like reverse and hot cues etc. but they are very useful in terms of creativity and efficiency.
Also worth getting an EFX 500 and taking it to the next level.

No, you don't need it but if you know how to use it with loop you can be really effective with it.

You can also do some mixes just on one CDJ by using tracks on the same CD with compatible keys the reverse function and to hot cue points. You also need a good head count for beats but that comes with practice.

Or take it to the next level still and record a mix of two tracks and they do the reverse plus hot cues... you get the idea?
