At my university (its a shitty one to be sure) there's an annual "rave" (dark side) :-/ being hosted by a frat next weekend, and being that people know I go to events, and listen to EDM, asked me to get whatever mixes/livesets for it. Only problem is, i have no idea what to give. Should I give em livesets? cd mixes? (There are no decks and no mixer, otherwise we'd get someone to spin)
So, what's all your opinions on what to give this party for music, as to make it 'ok' as opposed to hearing Ian Van Dal and DJ Sammy all night?

I'd suggest you play some of this:

i remember the frat raves when i was away at college, i think it was called Phi Kappa Techno. they handed out glow in the dark beer cups. pretty much they played the commercial stuff like Darude, Cosmic Gate, Alice Deejay, DJ Encore, etc. i got them to play Paul Oakenfold - Resident, it went over pretty good. most of the time we were too drunk to realize what was going on anyways. the bad thing about getting them to play a live mix is that you are going to have someone talking over it like the radio guy so i would suggest going with cds.

Bass isn't as heavy on the cds though...and I'm not sure if the sound system has much option on turning up lows? what do you think? still ok with cds?

chances are most people won't notice. they will be too busy trying to get drunk and hook up, you know the college thing.

+1.
you play commercial stuff the first 15 minutes, then after that, whatever you play, no one will mind what music is playing, because their either wasted or macking with some chic in the corner...
