"The U.S. government must respect Venezuela's sovereignty and stop meddling if it wants to improve ties with its fourth-largest oil supplier, Foreign Minister Ali Rodriguez said on Wednesday. Rodriguez was responding to comments by Secretary of State-designate Condoleezza Rice who on Tuesday at her Senate confirmation hearing criticized President Hugo Chavez for what she called his autocratic measures at home and his negative influence in the region."

She hasn't even been confirmed yet and she's already trying to dislodge her foot out of her mouth. What a dumb bitch. I guess we can look forward to more of her sensative 'diplomacy' in the state department.

was she not supposed to criticize Chavez's autocratic measures at home and his negative influence in the region?

if you think that makes her a "stupid bitch" it's going to be a long four years for you.

Yeah, it's only that Chavez was the democratically elected President of Venezuela and the Bush administration voiced in public their praise of the attempted coup to overthrow him when they thought the ousting was a success. Hooray for bringing freedom & democracy to the world...unless democracy doesn't agree with our oil trade! Lets see what happens in Iraq with their democracy if they come to decisions that don't reflect our views.

P.S. Chavez was also approved elected by the people to continue as President after that whole fiasco.

Even if she had a legitmate beef any knucklehead knows you work through diplomatic channels instead of saying inflamitory retoric when you haven't even gotten the position. Cowboy diplomacy at its finest. Like wolverine said bush backing a coup of an elected leader. Why does the bush administration hate freedom and democracy? Loved how they stood up for the hatian president. lol ahhh but thats another story.

Well he is a populist leader. But like many, he is POPULAR. He may not be the US's best friend (nor is that his role as leader of his country) but he certainly has the support of his people and he knows it.

With that said he is a fucking moron and running that country into the ground. Sad really.

all right, first off, unless i'm missing something, you guys are using the word "coup" way too liberally (no pun intended). if your talking about the "recall" in August, then you have to make a huge assumption that that vote was valid. just what exactly do you guys know that the State Department doesn't. that's not really important. what is important is that there are no restrictions between our country and theirs, aside from the secuirty restrictions common to all. criticisms on a scale like this from both sides is healthy.

and igottaknow, don't get all "holier than thou" about inflamatory rhetoric between world leaders.

No, the recall was in 2004, which was part of the aftermath of the strike/coup. The events of the military coup were from April 11 - April 14, 2002 and also another one was foiled early on in October 2002. The strike was directly related to the oil industry and the Bush administraton backed it and then tried to retract statements after it was discovered it failed.
