automation of multiple instruments in reason...
Does anyone know how to record automation with multiple instruments at the same time? I'm more of a spontaneously-twist-knobs type person than a explicitly-plan-each-measure person. So I figured I could just put loops in for the entire song, then cut and bring in different ones using automated filters/volume controls/muting...but the automation is only recorded on one track at a time.
For example...say I have a subtractor synth loop going, that I want to blend into a maelstrom synth loop by high-pass filtering out the subtractor synth while low-pass-filtering in the maelstrom loop. There's no way to do this using the knobs and have it record it...since it will only record the automation on whichever sequencer track is selected at the time. It will sound exactly like I want it to, but only record on the active sequencer track and not both. I could do it by just doing the entire song in one shot and recording it as a wav outside of reason...but I'd like to be able to edit what I do afterwards in reason.
Thanks for any help or ideas...if i need to be more clear on what I"m asking let me know

Just draw the automations you want in into the edit automation track in the sequencer

heh...yeah...but i'd much rather be able to twist the knob in real time and have it record, rather than draw it in.
yep, i'm stubborn

Well you can't move two knobs at the exact same time because you have only 1 mouse to move... but I guess you could move as many knobs as you want in one RECORDING...
(Just draw them in :P)

FL Studio has an X-Y controller that allows you to link the X and Y axis to any two controls. You could ReWire to FL, setup your midi out and control the parameters that way. I've found that FL and Reason make a good pair anyway!

I lost you after that.
To record any knob/slider in reason
1. Press the record button(the big red one)
2. Press play
3. Slide the knob/slider the way you want.
4. Once you want it to stop recording press stop
There you go, you've just recorded a sliders/knobs action in real time without having to draw it in.

no but...try and do what i said. What you said to do will only record on whichever sequencer track is active, even if you're automating more than one thing.
If you move two knobs at the same time, that are linked to separate components on the rack....then it won't record both of them...only the active one
UNLESS you happen to have some option set that would be exactly what i'm looking for...some sort of global recording option.

haha...i have a midi controller...i can twist as many knobs as I want..the only problem is that i don't know if there's a way to have it actually record all of what I do.

Basically, what you would be doing is using Reason instruments and FX in FL Studio. FL Studio allows several methods of Automation including recording it live.
Try it out!
