working in australia with a holiday visa

would it be possible?

i wanna go there for the summer, but i dont want to waste my only chance at a year living in your super country by spending 3 months there.

if i was to do wee shitty jobs like wash pots in a kitchen, would i get any hassle over visas?

i cant afford to go there for 3 months without working.

any advice?

hi, im a canadian who's been living here in oz for the past 3 years - i was just at DIMIA getting what is probably my 8th student visa (long story, theyre $400 each); ive learned a fair bit about australian immigration the hard way, so feel free to shoot me a PM if you want any more info.

the short answer to your q is that there's no way to get a work authorisation on your tourist visa. if you find a place to work, you could get them to sponsor you on a short-stay or long-stay business visa, but this isnt something that anyone would do for a 3 month total visit.

australia is a freaking awesome place - dont blow your only one year working holiday maker visa if youre only here for 3 months... i'd say work your arse off and save up before you come. some others might suggest you see if you can find some for-cash work, but personally i'd say its not worth it because DIMIA has a 'dob-in' line that anyone, 24/7, can ring up and rat you out anonymously, getting you deported (with a 3 year mandatory dont come back now y'hear, and a life of misery in terms of international travel) and your employer in a world of hurt.

not what you wanted to hear, but i hope it helps.

heh, its a good way to get rid of any international students that annoy you, i suppose, considering the 'deport first, ask questions later' approach DIMIA seems to take these days...

the AUS government are the biggest assholes when it comes to Immigration.

How can you call someone illegal... they are born just the same as anyone else, just unfortunate not to be in Australia.

And the legality of the detention centres can really be questioned..
