Kimball Collins Style

Hey Guys, I was wondering if kimball collins still has that "uplifting" style he had on he generation trance 2000.
I might go check him out this weekend and in need of
some good trance.

has anybody heard him spin recently?

I can tell you he NO LONGER has that uplifting sound.
He moved away from it in early 2001.

All he plays now is progressive.

I personally was very disappointed when I saw him live AND when I bought his new cd "music is life".

His ICU Generation Trance 2000 CD is the best trance mix I have ever heard in my life. That CD is a mind-blowing mix in the true sense of the word. I got it a long time ago and it STILL, after so many new purchases and MP3's, remains the BEST trance album for me.

Here on this site, people from other countries don't know about this CD, they worship Ferry Corsten and Tiesto and Gouryella, they think that that's all there is to epic/uplifting.

I, however, think that this CD beats any Ferry/Tiesto/Gouryella production *hands down*. I think that even in terms of artistic mixing and DJ'ing skills, this album is phenomenal.

When I heard this CD, it changed my life. In fact that's what started my passion for trance. NOTHING has ever lived up to this CD for me, and I've been following the epic-uplifting trance scene closely.

Imagine my disappointment when I heard his new progressive outings... man... if you compare the shit that he plays now, as well as this crappy 'music is life' CD, to the Generation Trance 2000 masterpiece, that's like two different worlds...

I still think Collins is a true talent. To have come out with a gem like Generation Trance 2000 mix you have to have a great taste in music. In fact I promised myself that when I get my new decks, I will create a mix as energy-packed, melodic, and artistic, as that one.

He has definately turned progressive. Despite what all friends told me about him, I still went to go see him last week at a club. What a big disappointment.

It was too progressive and dark for my liking. *shivers* I should of left early, but I stayed til almost then end of his set just to catch any uplifting moments, but I didn't.

I agree. Generation Trance 2000 was pretty good. Pretty melodic compared to what he has turned to now.

nah... they're like TRU progressive trance... it IS boring sometimes but there is energy.. its all that dark crap... personally i get bored of it but i try to keep an open mind, sometimes they're ok.

and i thought kimball collins - music is life is a very good cd..
i DL the other day, its NOT PROG AT ALL!!!!
its uplifting! just not as *dutch* uplifting as ferry..

there's l-vee - end of the road, a huge opener
delerium - innocente (mr sam remix) another amazing vocal

and it finishes w/ orinoko - island (original)
very good cd! just cuz its not 139 bpm dont mean its progressive.

Yeah,

Well, everyone on this board stamps "progressive" on anything that isn't riduculously high-energy, and calls it crap. Perhaps you all should invest in an attention span.

Hence, I never post anymore, no one ever has anything interesting to say.

I have noticed that too. I usually do get bored enough to post, alt usually about topics OTHER than trance. People seem to forget that 'trance' as a style isnt -only- uplifting. Uplifting is great, but its not the only way to party. Good prog stuff has just as much energy as uplifting stuff, you just have to pay attention for more than 8 mins, like you pointed out. When was the last time you heard an uplifting DJ mix a song so well you didnt know the actual record had changed? I personally havent...

Dont get me wrong- KCs - ICU generation album is good. Not the best album I have ever heard, but full of some awesome, unique toons. Uplifting is what brought me into the scene, but I almost feel sorry for people that cant open their mind enough to try a new style, but then again they can move on to the next music fad if they dont like progressive.

I know my post will prolly come off as flaming, but Im really just trying to say that progressive isnt boring, doesnt all sound the same, and DOES have energy, you just have to pay attention to more than one song...and a bit of discontentment in the TA music discussion. I mean not a week goes by where someone doesnt start a post about how uplifting trance is dying and that its like the world will end if artists try something new...everyone needs to change, even if its hard...late/

Actually, Kimball Collins started off spinning house in 1986. He used to DJ At a club called Oz, and was one of the pioneers of the scene in Orlando. That scene moved to breaks where guys like DJ Icey got their fame, by then Kimball Collins was playing Progressive House (and gaining fame for it), and by the time breaks no longer were "cool" (around 1995), he was called in to play at the former home of breaks, a club called Firestone that used to be an actual firestone garage. And what was he playing....Progressive House.

I don't know when he started doing trance, I only know this bit about Kimball Collins. Peace.
