Installing NT4, quick question.

Hey all,

Right now I have win 98 on my computer and my 10GB is partitioned into 4 drives. What is the best way to go about installing NT?

I don't actually know how to unpartition my drives as it was my friend that partitioned them... But what I've done is the c:\ drive is where all my programs are and everything else is on the other drives. I'd like to keep it this way so that I don't loose some files on the other drives and so I was hoping I could reformat my c:\ drive and install NT onto that without loosing files on my other drives. Can I do that, or will I need to unpartition and reformat the entire 10GB?

And if I need to reformat the whole thing...does anyone have a private ftp with about 100MB free where I could upload these files for the day?? I'll loose all my mp3s but at least I can save my important documents.

P.S.
I also have my boyfriend's compaq internet computer here...I'm not too familiar with compaq's except to know that they suck. Does anyone here know if I can install NT4 overtop of the regular compaq O/S?

well, a few things.

NT4 is outdated technology, go with windows 2000, or you will be left in the dust. even windows 2000 is out of date now!

you should be able to install win2k (or NT if you really wanna go that route) onto the C drive only, and keep all your other stuff on the other drives.

if I were you, during the setup process, I would select FAT32 as the file system, NOT NTFS, because then all your drives will be the same type of file system.

I have an FTP you could use for that purpose. PM me for details.

Yah yah, I know I know...but it's the only O/S I can get my hands on other than 98 and I need to set users because I've just moved in with a buncha roommates that I let use my computer and I want to make sure I don't loose any files accidently when they're goofing around.

oh, and pm'd you
