Just recently I loaded a cd into one of my 800's and heard a funny whirrring noise, kinda like a little motor running. Scared me a little bit so I ejected it and reloaded it and got the same noise. Tried a different cd and no noise. Tried the whirrr cd in my other 800 and got the same noise. So at least I know it's the cd and not the 800's.

Anyways, it's a manufactured cd, not one that I burnt. It's brand new and I can't see any scratches or warping. The cd plays fine but, I'm a little apprehensive to play it at all because I don't want to damage the cdj, if that's possible. I suppose I'll just rip and burn it and try that route.

Just curious to see if you guys with 800's/possibly 1000's have run in to any situation like this and what causes might be.

Maybe it needs to be spun faster to read it, causing the whirring noise.

Put a CD in and hear a "whirring" noise. That's obvious. If you spin something fast it makes a windy noise

Perhaps that's it then. Didn't know that different cd's had to be spun faster to be read.

I'd rather be paranoid than cdj-less though. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you have a warranty that came with the cdj's. If they break, bring them back and they'll give you some new ones.

On the Pioneer Forum (North America) other people have had some problems like this. This has kind of made me rethink my aspirations to buy CDJ 800s, since I can't afford the 1000 MK2s. I dunno if it's damaged or not, but it sounds like there is a glitch in it, but also other people have said it deals with the heatsink, still others say it is an inherent thing with CDJs. I have no idea.....hope I don't run into this problem either when I get them...

Yeah, the CD might be slightly unbalanced. CDJ's spin the disc at a higher rate than a standard CD player, so that they can buffer a large amount of the data for scratching and looping and such. If it's really loud, burn a copy and use that instead!

Slightly? The damn thing is pretty damn unbalanced!

You should be careful with those discs. They can shatter in your disc player, causing lots of damage.

I even remember AOpen CD drives which didn't have good stabilisation systems. I remember a LOT of AOpen users who found shattered discs inside their drive (even original Windows OEM CD's. What a shame).

So if you're clever, copy it (while reading at REALLY LOW SPEED) and use the copy. Or return to your retailer where you bought the disc
