I'm wondering what sampler I should get. I'm looking for something like Reason's NN-XT. I tried Halion and really didn't like it. Which one do guys prefer?

You mean a vst based sampler? I guess Kontakt or Kompakt from Native Instruments are good choices.
Didn't like Halion myself either

Kontakt is pretty wicked. Intakt also. Both by Native.

sorry to say but sofware all the way!!!!!
hardware is only effective in live situations really, with what you can do with software these days it is great. plus cost factor, you can buy NI products cheaper than hardware with just as many features and quality.
I personally use reason3.0 and use the nn-xt to sample, its a good sampler. but not sure how it compares to others.
cheers,
MATTZ

for production, software sampling has become the option for most producers. it's so much cheaper than a lot of hardware samplers and it's improved in leaps and bounds recently. Native Instruments Kontakt and Ableton Live's Simpler are my current samplers of choice - there's quite a bit of flexibility in both.
Music is as universal to people as breathing. We've probably been at it since before we even started talking. Immaging two cavemen smashing away at a peace of flint to make a spearhead. It wouldn't take long for them to learn te synchronise the sound. And there you have it, the words first percussive band.
Music has survived wars, famines, the plague and many other things and has evolved with man across many cultures. Dance music is just the next step in the evolutionary chain. My guess is that it will probably be with us untill we are extinced.
