Question iPod or iPod mini?

Ok, here is the scenario: I work a full-time job detailing automobiles for a dealership and I share a bay with another detailer. He blasts his radio excessively, throughout the entire day. Mostly the radio is tuned to the local hip-hop/R&B station (owned by Clear Channel) and I'm so tired of hearing the same damn songs for the past X amount of months. There are times he will pop a CD in, and granted sometimes it will be one that I enjoy (I used to listen to rap, but I've moved on since). Well, I'm sick of listening to it so I decided the best move to make would be to get an iPod and load it up with what I enjoy.

My main question about iPod vs. iPod mini is battery life. I work 8 or 9 hours a day and would use the player roughly 7 or 8 of those hours. I was thinking I could listen all day and then by the end, come home, recharge it over night and then do it all over again. Now I've saw claims where the mini only last 8 hours and then I saw where it lasts 12+ hours.

Another thing to take into account is how well structured both units are. It's going to take some abuse being in my pockets all day and I do alot of movement.

Also, does the iPod come with a "lock button" feature? I'd hate to get into the middle of a set and then accidently bump the unit and send it to the next track.

Let me know what you think, any information is helpful. (Hopefully I won't regret saying this in the CoR... )

tell that guy to Foff. I hate those ******s who blast hip hop.

um, either way, an ipod will last you ages, more than 8/9 hours for sure. they both have hold buttons too. about size, I'd go for the mini. assuming you'll be moving a lot, the big ipod will be a bitch. besides, the mini has more than enough space and it's cheaper too

enjoy the music

My dad knows the execs at Apple quite well and although they won't "Officially" admitt it, the iPod shuffle produces better sound quality than any of the other iPods on the market.

First of all, I'd consider desperately looking for a better job and not spend your money on I-pods. Other than that. I'd get something else, The new I-rivers are pretty dope with a good interface and you don't have to use the fucking ID3 tags. Another thing to think about in terms of life is; whatever I-pod you get is going to be lithium-ion, they loose a bit of life every 6 months or so, and the I-pod's batteries aren't changeable.
If I were you I'd get something where I could get a separate charger and have an extra battery. No matter what you get, eventually it won't last for the full work day. Also, I hate I-pods, but yeah, different story.

Ipod mini has good battery life, almost the same as an Ipod.

The major thing to watch for is the music your playing. Playing single songs (smaller than 20mb) will be perfect for your batterly life. The Ipod builds up a cache of music that will be selelected next, such as... when you play in Random Mode, it auto selects the next 2-3 songs before your even done hearing the current one. This save battery life becuase the HD doesnt hafto keep moving.

When you play sets, The HD doesnt stop spinning becuase the content size is larger than its cache can hold(cache is 20mb). To continue to play skip free music, the HD has to keep spinning, therefore splitting a 12 hour battery life down to 4-5 hours...

I just got a mini and I love it! It's small. It DOES have a hold feature on the top by the earphones, all you have to do is slide it! As far as the battery, it has great battery time. The only thing is that is stores less tracks (1,000) OR the new one that holds 1,500 but I mostly have DJ sets on it so I have musik to last.

This post doesn't help much without other suggestions, so why bother?

I like my job and it pays pretty well for someone my age who isn't paying out the ass for college loans. I still have the option for college at any time, but at least now I'll be able to pay for it.

I've considered an i-River, but the iPod always looks so solid when comparing. As for battery types, what other hard drive players don't use lithium-ions?
