Hello all! I'm a home studio guy who used to play in a pop band, but my passion has always been electronic music. I've been hammering some stuff out the past few years, and recently have bitten by a trance-like bug.

My main programs are Reaktor 4, Korg Legacy, Psychicmodulations Optik, SOund Forge 6, and Cubase SE.

theres definetly some major mastering issues, and i don't mean to sound rude but your style is totally outdated in this track. It sounds like something made 10 years ago. I'd would listen to a few sets just to see what the sound of today is, and then try to differentiate your sound from there. Structure wise its not that bad, and you can tell you do have skill, you just have to learn how to release it.

I'm not familiar with the term "set." I assume that is a string of trance tracks mixed together.

I do own some trance records, including PVD's latest, and it seems that tracks these days are more vocal and on the verge of being pop tunes. Is that a valid observation? Other tracks that I've listened to are of the hard trance variety with fast, hard basslines.


As far as mastering, what do you think I need to do to improve the sound?

it needs mastered but im sure you already no that. it could be good if you added an uplifting melody to take it away from the old style which mr rogers is probably referring too. not bad though.

I definetely hear you pop influence. Some nice tricks you implemented. But it sound a little too inviting for a 25 yearold Madonna to come and spend some time at your mic. The lead melody reminds me of some old poprock track by Bon Jovi, Europe or someone similar, can't realy place it.

I prefer your other track slightly. But all in all it sounds asif you you got most of your sounds out of a keybourd, not a synthesizer. I'm missing a lot of self-modelled tones.

Music is as universal to people as breathing. We've probably been at it since before we even started talking. Immaging two cavemen smashing away at a peace of flint to make a spearhead. It wouldn't take long for them to learn te synchronise the sound. And there you have it, the words first percussive band.

Music has survived wars, famines, the plague and many other things and has evolved with man across many cultures. Dance music is just the next step in the evolutionary chain. My guess is that it will probably be with us untill we are extinced.

I started doing these type of tracks without really listen to anything new. The last time I did any real composition was over 10 years ago, so maybe I'm taking off from where I left off! But I do appreciate the comments. Back in the day, it was groups like Modern Talking, D-mode, Ken Laszlo, other Euro-disco types.....trance wasn't really even out yet when I was playing in bands. When I started getting back into music, I went with some electronica stuff, but the thing that fascinated me was the 4/4 up tempo beats. The synth sounds probably sound that way because I like the v-analog type horns and pads, but it seems like a lot of psytrans has a lot of organic pads and gated leads and basses. I tried to do some gated leads buy using effects plug-in, but still need to practice at it. Still learning. I de really appreciate the comments.

There are some notes that are off-key.
This is much like Ian Van Dahl just without the vocals.

I can hear that you made pop.
